Chapter 16: When Silence Speaks
Sometimes…
the things we don't say hurt the most.
And sometimes…
silence becomes the reason everything starts breaking.
Swati and Abhi
Abhi couldn't ignore it anymore.
This wasn't normal.
This wasn't just mood.
Swati was really going away from him.
That day, after class, he followed her.
"Swati… wait."
She stopped.
Didn't turn immediately.
Then slowly…
she faced him.
"What happened?"
Her voice was calm.
Too calm.
"Why are you doing this?" Abhi asked.
"Doing what?" she replied.
"This… distance. Ignoring me. Acting like I don't matter."
Swati looked at him quietly.
For a moment—
she didn't say anything.
Then she spoke.
"I'm not ignoring you."
"You are," Abhi said softly.
"And you know it."
A small pause.
Then Swati looked away.
"Maybe you're just overthinking."
That hurt.
"Then why does it feel like I'm losing you?" Abhi asked.
His voice was low now.
Real.
Swati's fingers tightened on her bag.
She didn't want to say it.
But she had to.
"I didn't change," she said quietly.
Abhi looked at her.
"Then what changed?"
This time—
she looked straight into his eyes.
"You."
That one word…
was enough.
"You stopped noticing," she continued.
"You stopped listening… stopped caring."
Abhi stayed silent.
Because deep down—
he knew she was right.
"I was always there," she said, her voice shaking slightly.
"But you were busy somewhere else."
Her words weren't loud.
But they carried everything she had been holding inside.
Abhi tried to speak.
"Swati… I didn't—"
But she stepped back.
"I don't want to fight," she said.
"I'm just tired."
That word—
tired—
broke something inside him.
Because it didn't sound like anger.
It sounded like giving up.
And that scared him.
Priyanka and Aditya
On the terrace, things felt different.
But in a good way.
Priyanka stood beside Aditya.
Closer than before.
Comfortable.
No confusion now.
"About yesterday…" she said softly.
Aditya smiled.
"You're still thinking about it?"
She looked down, smiling slightly.
"Of course."
There was a small silence.
But it felt peaceful.
Not awkward.
"Are you scared?" he asked.
"A little," she admitted.
"Why?"
"Because this feels real."
Aditya looked at her seriously.
Then said quietly—
"I'm not going anywhere."
Priyanka looked at him.
And this time—
she believed him.
Aditi and Lavesh
In the corridor—
"Tum kabhi serious ho sakte ho?" Aditi asked.
Lavesh smiled.
"Main hoon."
"Proof?"
He stepped closer.
"I like you."
Aditi froze.
For a second, she thought he was joking.
"Stop it, Lavesh."
"I'm not joking."
This time—
he didn't smile.
Didn't laugh.
Just looked at her.
And that made her nervous.
Because this felt different.
Real.
And she didn't know how to react.
Poonam, Ayush and Upendra
In class, Poonam and Upendra were talking again.
Comfortable.
Close.
Like always.
Ayush watched from behind.
Silent.
But this time—
something changed.
He stood up.
Picked his bag.
And walked out of the class.
Without saying anything.
Because staying there…
was becoming too hard.
Ending Scene
Evening.
The campus was almost empty.
Swati stood near the back gate.
Alone.
Her eyes filled with tears.
But she wiped them quickly.
"No expectations…" she whispered.
But her voice broke.
At the same time—
from a distance—
Abhi saw her.
He saw everything.
The way she stood.
The way she tried to stay strong.
He took a step forward.
Then stopped.
Because he didn't know—
if he still had the right to go to her.
And for the first time—
Abhi felt completely helpless.
Because this time—
he might really lose her.
