The bedroom was bathed in a very soft, quiet darkness. The oil lamps had burned out, leaving only the pale, silver moonlight shining through the large glass windows.
After a long while of intense passion, the room was finally silent.
The loud panting and the heavy, ragged breathing that had filled the space just minutes ago had slowly subsided. The air felt warm and thick. They lay together in the center of the soft, messy bedsheets. Their bodies were covered in a light, cooling sheen of sweat.
Camilla rested her head comfortably against Damon's chest. She listened to the steady thumping of his heart slowing down to a normal rhythm.
She lay there with her eyes closed, enjoying the warm silence. But all of a sudden, her mind became alert. She remembered that Damon was planning to ride into an ambush on the road to the royal palace tomorrow morning. She needed to secure her place by his side. She could not let him go alone.
