"The party will be taking place in two days." My father's words rang in my head.
What!
"And you didn't think to ask for my opinion?" I asked coldly.
"It wasn't necessary." He said, mirroring my words when I decided to set up a press conference without his consent.
This man sure knew how to hold a grudge.
But I wasn't going to give in so easily.
"You can't make such a decision on your own." My voice turned dark.
"I didn't decide alone, your grandma, Mrs Belmont, they both agreed to this." He said, unfazed by my cold tone.
My eyes shifted to Gigi, question marks written all over my face.
"I'm sorry we didn't discusss this with you but it's for the best." She said l, apologetically.
To think I was actually starting to hold this woman in high regard.
How dare they continuously try to make decisions for me.
It was my own life for crying out loud.
I turned to look at Mayelle beside me.
She looked stunned but I couldn't say for sure that she wasn't already aware of this change.
"Are you already aware of this?@ I asked before I could stop myself.
She fidgets with her hands, not daring to look me in the eye.
That gave me the answer I needed.
"Don't bother answering me, I didn't think I'd want to hear it anyways." I said, no longer looking at her.
I clenched my fists, feeling wronged.
"I warned her not to tell you until we got here." Gigi hurriedly chipped in.
"Is there any other thing you've planned for me that I should know about?" I asked my father.
"Actually… there is, you and Mayelle will be living together once the engagement is concluded." He said.
"If that's all then can you please leave." I said, trying my possible best not to smack the smile off his face.
"Of course, we'll give you two space to talk." Gigi said, standing.
"Bu-."
My father held back his words when Gigi eyed him.
" Don't come home tonight, stay with your fiancée." Gigi said and made to leave before Mayelle could respond.
My father stood up in silence and followed after her.
"So back to you two, are you sure staying together tonight won't lead to something much deeper than what I saw just now?" He teased.
But I was in no mood for it.
I just stood up silently and walked out of the living room.
I entered my room closed the door behind me.
I went straight to my balcony, with hope that the ache I felt would be blown away by the wild wind.
I heard my door open and close but I didn't bother to look back as I already knew who it would be.
I hissed.
"If you're here to render your sick apology then don't bother."
"Just hear me out, will you?" She asked in a calm tone.
"I'm not interested in whatever you have to say." I answered, coldly.
That still didn't stop her from advancing towards me.
"… i just di-."
"You knew about the change in the engagement date, about the fact that we would be living together and you didn't think to tell me?" I finally turned around.
All I got was silence.
She didn't have an answer to my question.
"Great, just great." I said as I tucked my hands into my pocket.
"My mom told me not to mention it to you so they could inform you themselves." She finally said.
"Don't tell me you were in on this too, or we're the one who urged for it?" I couldn't help but question her.
"It's not what it looks like, I don't want this marriage as much as you do so why would I try to hurry the engagement?" She sighed.
"It's not what it looks like?" I raised my brows. "From where I stand it looks like you have an hidden motive, it looks like you wanted this all along."
"It's isn't like that." She repeated.
"You were here with me for quite a while, couldn't you have just given me an hint of what was coming? You just stood here acting all high and mighty while I was trying to apologize to you for a mistake that you caused." I was getting angrier by the seconds.
"You think I'm a spoilt brat?" She questioned.
"Are you not?" I threw back at her.
"Stop blaming this all on me."
"Why? This is all your fault afterall." I said to her.
"It isn't, I just couldn't tell you to avoid causing any unnecessary problems." She tried to back herself up.
"So you decided lying was better?" I took a step closer to her while she took one back.
"I didn't lie."
"You chose not to talk." I corrected. "Same thing."
"It's not the same thing, you know that." She was starting to get frustrated too.
Perfect.
"So, what else have you not been telling me?" I continued.
"Vincent stop this!" She yelled at me.
I froze for a millisecond before regaining my composure.
"You don't have the right to yell at me, heck no one does." I yelled back.
"I'm not one of those your employees you lay back or shout at when things don't go your way." I could see pure rage boiling in those hazel eyes of hers.
"And I'm not one of those people you get to keep in the dark." I retorted.
Silence.
"Vincent." She called out, her voice back to its normal calm tone.
"Just go." I said.
She blinked at me.
"Don't you speak English, I said leave, I need to clear my head." I repeated.
"What?"
"I don't want to continue this conversation, please leave." I glared at her.
She paused for a moment.
"The dress fitting is tomorrow and you're supposed to be there." She informed.
I don't respond.
"I'm sure wherever your mom is she'll be happy to see what her lovely son has grown to become." She added sarcastically before leaving the room.
Her last sentence.
It hit me, hard.
I was yet to recover when Adrian stepped in.
"You okay bro?" He asked.
I was too stunned to reprimand him for calling me bro again.
"You blew that out of proportion, you know?" He asked.
I knew I did.
But it was for the greater good.
We were starting to get too cozy with one another. I had to do something to cause some tension.
The truth was, once I found and dealt with my mother's killers I was going to divorce her.
Because, by that time my mother's soul will finally rest in peace and she wouldn't be able to watch over me anymore.
I wasn't that angry that she didn't tell me but I had to pretend to be.
Now, at least for a while we would try to avoid each other.
"Stop spacing out, we're talking to you." I heard Adrian say and that was when I finally noticed that Daniel was alre in my room too.
"What were you saying?" I asked.
"I was telling you that the fight is a sign that you both are becoming real couples." Adrian repeated.
"You're delirious." I shakes my head in utter confusion.
"I'm being serious, all couples fight, so as a couple that you two are you also fought." He explained.
"We fight all the time too, does that mean we're also couples." I raised a brow.
He rolled his eyes.
"You're such a joy killer."
"Will you still be going to HQ today?" Daniel asked me.
I wanted to say no, but on second thoughts… I just changed locations.
"I'll go to Alan's magazine instead." I said.
