I stirred in my sleep as a scent I was sure was definitely not mine crawled into my nose.
I tried to open my eyes but the ray of the early morning sun destroyed my attempts.
Who the hell drew back the curtains anyway?
I tried to open my eyes once again and this time I was able to.
It was as though something had come between I and the sun to act as my shade.
When my eyes finally adjusted to the lightning of the room I finally realized that there was really something blocking me from the rays of the sun.
Well, more like someone.
"Why in the world are you in my house? And at this time of the morning?" I questioned.
She rolled her eyes at me.
"Don't feel too important, my mum sent me."
That was when I finally remembered yesterday's conversation with Gigi.
But I didn't expect her to send her daughter over this early.
"Since you're awake, I'll be leaving now. The medicine is on the table." She said, taking her hands away from my face and getting off the bed.
I frowned.
Something was definitely wrong somewhere.
Maryelle was behaving rather off.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"I'm perfectly fine as you can see." She answered, backing me.
A knock on the door stopped me from questioning her further.
"Come in." She said.
The nerve of her.
She was definitely getting too accustomed to behaving like the future Mrs Russo.
Daniel stepped in, looking between both of us probably wondering how she ended in my room and why.
"Good morning Miss Belmont, it's good to see you again." Daniel said to her.
"Morning Daniel, and please stop calling that, just address me as Mayelle from now on." She said softly, every hint of the coldness she showed had shown me was now absent.
This helped me conclude that the problem was with me.
She was definitely angry at me for leaving the banquet like that.
"Daniel please excuse us." I said to Daniel.
"But…"
I interrupted him.
"We'll talk later."
He sighed and exits the room.
I was probably going to get an earful later on the 'bros before hoes' logic.
"I'm s-so… im really so-" I couldn't bring myself to say the word.
"What do you want to say?" She feigned ignorance.
I sighed.
"I'm trying to apologize."
She moved closer and sat at the edge of the bed.
She asked.
"Is it that hard for you to say sorry?"
I scratched the back of my neck in embarrassment.
"Kinda, it's not something I say often, in fact I don't recall ever saying it." I confessed.
"Even to your late mom?" She asked.
"She was an exception, but I used to sorry a lot when she was alive." I smiled.
She doesn't respond and just keeps staring at me.
"Do I have something on my face?" I asked, touching my face to make sure I didn't.
"Your smile, It's beautiful." She said still looking dazed.
I waved my hand in her face.
"Earth to North."
That managed to finally snap her out of her trance.
"Sorry, I meant to say that you look good when you smile, you should smile more often." She said.
That was when it finally hit me.
One, I had talked about my mother with her.
I hadn't freaked out at the topic of my mother for once.
And two, I smiled.
I can't remember the last time I did that.
The highest I did was smirk.
"I apologize for how I reacted at the banquet yesterday." I managed to say.
"Apology accepted. But why did you get angry out of the blue?" She asked.
I decided to come clean to her.
"You made mention of I and Adrian being from two different mothers and that reminded me of my mother's death and my father's betrayal."
"I'm sorry too." She apologized. "For triggering your past trauma."
"You're not supposed to be the one apologizing." I sighed.
"Now that that's settled, you need to get up and take the medicine mom said I should give to you." She said as she stretches out her hand, volunteering to help me get me up .
I stared at her hands, contemplating whether to take it or not.
In the end I put my hand in hers and she helped me up. The result being that I now stood too close to her. A weird feeling started to build up in my body, feelings that were too close to control.
"You're staring."
"You're in my line of sight."
That
We stayed like that for a while, only to jerk apart when a voice pierced through our trance.
"Vince-"
I turned to see Adrian standing smugly by the door.
"Am I interrupting something?" He asked with a sly smile.
"No." I answered.
"Hmm…but I was sure you two were about to smooch." He raised his brows.
We both said at the same time.
"No we were not."
Adrian's smile widened.
"Right."
Before he could continue teasing us another voice came from behind him.
"Adrian, move."
I knew it was my father even before Adrian stepped aside.
I could easily recognize that devil's voice anytime.
"Are we interrupting something?" I heard another voice say.
That was when Gigi's figure appeared behind my father.
I was feeli rather confused to what my father and Gigi were looking for here, together and at this time of the day.
"Mom?" Mayelle also looked confused to why her mother was here.
"You're here already? I thought I told you to wait a little longer before you left." Gigi sad.
So Mayelle came this early on her own accord, that was weird.
We both simultaneously turned to each other as Gigi laughed lightly.
"I'm sure it's because you couldn't wait to see him." She teased.
More like she couldn't wait to come show me how angry she was.
"I have something to settle at the company today so I decided to come here before I became busy that's all." Mayelle explained.
"I think it's better that you're also present, let's go to the living room." My father said to Mayelle like he owned the house.
I kept my thoughts to myself as we followed them back to the living room.
When we were all seated, my father let out a loud sigh.
"Due to the recent scandal you've had, although you've already cleared your name we need to give them something else to talk about." He started.
"And that something else is your enagagement party." Gigi dropped the final bomb.
I frowned.
"Why would you need to inform me about this, we are all aware that there will be an engagement party in about 2 weeks time."
"Well, that's where the change comes in, the party has been pulled backwards." Gigi said.
"Meaning?" I asked.
"The party will be taking place in two days time."
