"Yes. I just got off work a few hours ago." Guiying settled cross-legged against the headboard, laptop balanced carefully on his knees. "I got home not too long ago. What's the time over there? Did you just land?"
"Yes. It took fourteen hours." Liuxian rubbed at his eyes, exhaustion visible even through the screen's imperfect resolution. "I had to call and check on you before I get buried in work. It's four in the morning here. I'll do a little before I sleep, since work starts at eight."
"Then you should be resting, not calling me." Guiying's brow softened despite the words, no real scolding behind them. "I'll call you tomorrow. Focus on sleeping."
Liuxian was quiet for a moment, studying him through the screen, the way he used to study him across a room, like there was something worth memorizing in the ordinary shape of his face.
"Guiying." His voice dropped lower. "I love you. I'll see you soon."
