Chapter 26 - “Not Just Three Anymore”

The next city didn't feel new.

Not really.

Not after everything that had already changed.

The schedules were just as packed. The rehearsals just as demanding. The expectations—higher than ever.

But now—

There was something else.

Something quiet.

Something unspoken.

And it had a name.

Emma stared at her phone again.

Not nervously.

Not exactly.

Just… thinking.

The message sat there, unread for a moment longer than usual.

Felix:

Are you free today? Even for a little while.

She exhaled slowly.

Free.

That word barely existed anymore.

Across the room, Ella adjusted her sleeve, watching Emma without making it obvious.

Elia stood near the mirror, fixing the smallest detail in her outfit—though she had already done it twice.

They both noticed.

They always did.

Emma locked her phone and stood up.

"…We have a break later, right?"

Ella blinked slightly.

"…A short one."

Elia glanced at her through the mirror.

"Forty minutes."

Emma nodded once.

"…Okay."

That was it.

But it wasn't just okay.

The silence that followed wasn't uncomfortable.

Just—

Waiting.

Emma turned toward them again.

"…I want you to meet him."

That changed everything.

Ella's eyes widened slightly.

"…Him?"

Elia didn't react outwardly.

But her attention sharpened instantly.

"…Now?"

Emma shrugged lightly.

"…If that's okay."

A pause.

A real one.

Then—

Ella smiled first.

Soft.

Supportive.

"…Okay."

Elia held Emma's gaze a second longer.

Measuring.

Then gave a small nod.

"…Fine."

Emma didn't expect her chest to feel that tight.

But it did.

The café was quiet.

Tucked away just enough to avoid attention.

Not empty—

But safe.

Emma arrived first.

Of course she did.

Sitting near the window, fingers tapping lightly against the table.

Not impatient.

Just—

Aware.

The door opened.

And he walked in.

Felix wasn't what people would expect.

Not flashy.

Not loud.

Not someone who demanded attention.

He moved calmly, scanning the room once before his eyes landed on her.

And then—

He smiled.

Small.

Real.

Emma stood up immediately.

"…You made it."

"…You asked."

His voice was steady. Easy.

Like nothing about this was complicated.

Even though it was.

They sat.

Across from each other.

A normal moment.

Except it wasn't.

"…They're coming," Emma said quietly.

Felix nodded.

"…I figured."

A pause.

Then—

"…Are they okay with this?"

Emma hesitated for half a second.

"…They will be."

The door opened again.

This time—

It mattered more.

Ella walked in first.

Elia just behind her.

Both of them scanning the room the same way Felix had.

And finding her.

Emma stood up again.

But this time—

Her heartbeat was louder.

They approached slowly.

Not hesitant.

Just careful.

Ella smiled first.

Polite.

Warm.

"…Hi."

Felix stood immediately.

"Hi."

Elia gave a small nod.

"…Hello."

Emma stepped in before the silence could stretch.

"…This is Felix."

A pause.

Then softer—

"…Felix, this is Ella. And Elia."

The introductions were simple.

But the weight behind them—

Wasn't.

They sat down.

Four people at one table.

But the air felt like it was still deciding what this moment meant.

Ella broke it gently.

"…We've heard about you."

Emma choked slightly.

"…Have you—?"

Ella smiled, teasing just a little.

"…Not much."

Felix glanced at Emma briefly.

Then back at Ella.

"That's probably for the best."

That earned the smallest reaction from Elia.

Not a smile.

But close.

A server came.

Orders were made.

Something normal to anchor the moment.

Then—

Silence again.

Not awkward.

Just—

New.

Elia spoke first.

Of course she did.

"…What do you do?"

Direct.

Clear.

No room to hide.

Felix didn't hesitate.

"Music production."

Emma glanced at him.

"…You didn't say that part."

"…You didn't ask."

Ella blinked.

"…Wait—really?"

He nodded.

"Mostly behind the scenes."

That shifted something.

Not fully.

But enough.

Elia leaned back slightly.

"…So you understand schedules."

"…I do."

"…And pressure."

"…Yes."

A pause.

Then—

"…Good."

Emma almost laughed.

Almost.

Ella leaned forward slightly now.

Curious.

"…How did you two meet?"

Emma immediately answered.

"Online."

Felix added calmly,

"Through work connections."

Elia's eyes moved between them.

Not suspicious.

But attentive.

"…How long?"

That question landed heavier.

Emma hesitated—

Then answered honestly.

"…A few months."

Ella nodded slowly.

Processing.

"…And you didn't tell us."

Emma looked at her.

"…I wasn't sure how."

That was the truth.

And this time—

It didn't feel like something she had to defend.

Felix spoke then.

Calm.

Respectful.

"…I told her she should."

All three of them looked at him.

Emma blinked.

"…You did?"

He nodded.

"…They matter."

A pause.

Then—

"…If I matter, they should know."

That changed something.

Clearly.

Ella's expression softened.

"…Okay."

Elia didn't speak.

But she didn't look away either.

Time moved slowly after that.

But not uncomfortably.

Conversation started to flow.

Carefully.

Then naturally.

They talked about:

Schedules.

Travel.

The differences between performing and producing.

Small things.

Safe things.

Emma watched more than she spoke.

Watching:

Ella relax.

Elia observe.

Felix remain steady.

It wasn't perfect.

But it wasn't bad.

At one point—

Ella laughed.

A real one.

And Emma felt something in her chest loosen.

Elia asked fewer questions as time passed.

Not because she had none.

But because—

She was listening now.

And Felix—

Didn't try to impress.

Didn't try to push.

He just—

Stayed honest.

Eventually—

The time came.

Because it always did.

Emma checked the time.

"…We have to go."

Ella nodded.

"…Yeah."

Elia stood first.

"…We're already late."

They stepped outside together.

The air cooler now.

Quieter.

There was a pause.

Right before leaving.

Ella turned to Felix.

"…It was nice meeting you."

And she meant it.

Elia looked at him next.

A second longer.

Then—

"…Take care of your time."

Not a warning.

Not quite.

But close enough.

Felix nodded.

"…I will."

Then—

Emma stepped closer.

Just slightly.

Not obvious.

But enough.

"…I'll text you."

"…Okay."

No more than that.

No less.

They walked away.

Together.

The silence lasted a full minute.

Emma didn't speak first.

This time—

She waited.

Ella did.

"…I like him."

Emma blinked.

"…That fast?"

Ella smiled.

"…He's calm."

A pause.

"…You need that."

Emma looked down slightly.

"…Yeah."

Then—

Elia spoke.

"…He's not a distraction."

Emma looked up immediately.

"…But he could become one."

There it was.

Clear.

Honest.

Unavoidable.

Emma held her gaze.

"…I won't let that happen."

Elia didn't respond right away.

Then—

"…Make sure."

Emma nodded.

"…I will."

Ella stepped between them slightly.

Softening the moment.

"…We trust you."

Emma looked at her.

"…I know."

And that was the difference.

This time—

It wasn't tension.

It wasn't uncertainty.

It was—

Adjustment.

That night—

Back at the hotel—

Emma sat on the edge of her bed.

Phone in hand.

Felix:

They're important.

She typed back.

Emma:

They liked you.

A pause.

Then—

Felix:

Did you?

Emma stared at the screen for a second.

Then smiled.

Soft.

Real.

Emma:

I wouldn't have introduced you if I didn't.

Across the room—

Ella was already half-asleep.

Peaceful.

Elia stood near the window again.

Watching the city.

Thinking.

"…Emma."

She looked up.

"…Yeah?"

A pause.

Then—

"…Thank you for telling us."

Emma blinked.

Surprised.

"…Yeah."

Another pause.

Then—

"…Don't hide things next time."

Emma smiled slightly.

"…I won't."

Elia nodded once.

Then turned back to the window.

And just like that—

It settled.

Not perfectly.

Not completely.

But enough.

Because this wasn't just about Emma anymore.

Or Felix.

Or even the group.

It was about balance.

Trust.

And the space between all of it.

And as the night deepened—

As the city lights flickered outside—

As something new quietly found its place—

One thing became certain.

Some names change everything.

But this one—

Didn't break them.

It simply became part of them.
