Chapter 28 - “The Truth We Chose”

The decision didn't come suddenly.

It didn't arrive in a dramatic moment.

No countdown.

No final push.

Just—

A quiet realization.

It started in the practice room.

Again.

Same mirrors.

Same music.

Same pressure.

But something felt different.

Emma stopped mid-step.

Not because she made a mistake.

But because she didn't want to keep moving forward like this.

"…Wait."

The music cut.

Ella looked at her immediately.

"…What's wrong?"

Elia turned slowly.

Watching.

Emma exhaled.

Long.

Steady.

"…I don't want to hide anymore."

Silence.

Not shocked.

Not confused.

Just—

Heavy.

Ella's expression softened instantly.

"…You mean…"

Emma nodded.

"…Yeah."

Elia didn't speak right away.

She studied her.

Carefully.

"…Are you sure?"

Emma met her gaze.

For once—

No hesitation.

"…Yes."

A pause.

Then—

"…I'm tired of feeling like I'm doing something wrong."

That line landed.

Deep.

Ella stepped closer.

"…You're not doing anything wrong."

Emma smiled faintly.

"…I know."

A beat.

"…But it still feels like it."

Elia crossed her arms slightly.

Thinking.

Not resisting—

Just weighing everything.

"…If we do this," she said slowly,

"…we do it properly."

Emma nodded immediately.

"…Of course."

Ella looked between them.

"…We tell them together?"

Emma didn't expect that.

Her eyes widened slightly.

"…You'd do that?"

Ella smiled.

Soft.

Certain.

"…We always do things together."

Emma looked at Elia.

A second passed.

Then—

Elia nodded.

"…Together."

And just like that—

The decision was made.

The announcement wasn't rushed.

It couldn't be.

Their manager stared at them like they had just suggested something impossible.

"…You're serious."

Emma didn't back down.

"…Yes."

Ella sat quietly beside her.

But her hand rested close.

Steady.

Elia stood in front.

Unmoving.

"…We've thought it through."

A long pause.

"…You understand the risk."

Emma nodded.

"…We do."

Elia added calmly,

"…But we also understand our fans."

That was the difference.

Not blind hope.

Not denial.

Trust.

The manager exhaled slowly.

Then—

"…If we do this… we control the narrative."

Elia nodded.

"…Exactly."

A plan formed quickly after that.

Not a press leak.

Not rumors.

A direct message.

From them.

To the fans.

The livestream was scheduled.

And suddenly—

Everything felt real.

Backstage—

Minutes before going live—

Emma paced.

Of course she did.

"…Okay—what if this goes terribly?"

Ella adjusted her mic.

"…Then we handle it together."

Emma stopped.

"…What if they're disappointed?"

Elia looked at her.

Steady.

Grounding.

"…Then we respect that."

A pause.

"…But we don't apologize for living."

That hit differently.

Emma nodded slowly.

"…Okay."

The countdown began.

5…

4…

3…

Ella reached for Emma's hand.

2…

Elia stepped closer.

The livestream started.

The comments flooded instantly.

Hearts. Names. Excitement.

Familiar.

Comforting.

Emma smiled automatically.

"Hi…"

Ella waved softly.

"Hello…"

Elia gave a small nod.

"…It's been a while."

They started normally.

Talking.

Laughing.

Easing into it.

But the weight of the moment—

Stayed.

Emma glanced at Elia once.

Now?

Elia gave the smallest nod.

Now.

Emma took a breath.

Then another.

"…We wanted to talk about something important."

The comments slowed slightly.

Shifted.

Ella's fingers tightened just slightly.

Elia spoke next.

"…And we want to be honest with you."

That word—

Honest—

Changed everything.

Emma continued.

Voice softer now.

But steady.

"…There's someone in my life."

Silence.

Not real silence—

But the kind that feels loud.

Comments paused.

Then—

Started moving again.

Fast.

Ella spoke gently.

"…Someone who makes her happy."

Elia added,

"…And someone we've met."

Emma swallowed slightly.

"…His name is Felix."

There it was.

Out.

Real.

Unhidden.

The chat exploded.

Too fast to read.

Too fast to understand.

Emma's heart dropped.

"…Okay, that's a lot—"

Ella leaned closer to the screen.

Trying to read.

"…Wait…"

Her expression changed.

Emma noticed.

"…What?"

Ella blinked.

Then—

Laughed softly.

"…They're…"

She looked at Emma.

"…They're being nice."

Emma froze.

"…What?"

Elia stepped forward.

Reading now.

Carefully.

A pause.

Then—

Her expression shifted too.

"…They're supporting you."

Emma stared.

"…No way."

She moved closer.

Reading.

Really reading.

"As long as you're happy"

"We trust you"

"Take care of each other"

"We love you no matter what"

"Felix better treat you well 😤"

Emma's eyes widened.

"…They're… okay?"

Ella smiled.

"…More than okay."

Elia nodded slowly.

"…They're accepting it."

Emma let out a breath she didn't know she was holding.

"…Wait—I was prepared to cry for the wrong reason—"

Ella laughed softly.

"…You still can."

Emma blinked.

"…Yeah… maybe I will."

She looked back at the camera.

Her voice softer now.

More emotional.

"…Thank you."

The comments exploded again.

But this time—

It felt different.

Warm.

"…We were really scared to tell you," Ella admitted.

"…We thought… you might be upset," Emma added.

Elia finished quietly.

"…But you trusted us."

That mattered.

More than anything.

And in that moment—

The fear they had carried for so long—

Started to disappear.

Not completely.

But enough.

Because the line they were so afraid to cross—

Didn't break anything.

It brought them closer.
