Chapter 49 - Chapter 48: Valencia Island

Chapter 48:Valencia Island

Lyra and the gang soon reached Valencia Island.

"Wow, look at that," Misty said, looking out of the blimp's window. "It's like a tropical island."

"It did say in the brochure that the Orange Islands are a lot of islands," Brock said.

The blimp soon landed on the ground, and Lyra and the gang got off.

"Say, Lu," Misty said, "how do we get to Professor Ivy's lab?"

Lyra shook her head. "I'm afraid I don't know," she said, fixing her hood. "We need to ask someone."

They found a Pokémon Center and asked Nurse Joy where Professor Ivy's lab was.

"You'll find the lab at the back of the island, next to the beach," she said.

Thanks to Nurse Joy's directions, the gang did find the lab.

Lyra knocked on the door, and three triplet girls answered.

"Hi, I'm Charity," the first one said.

"I'm Faith," the second girl said.

"I'm Hope," the third said.

"And we're Professor Ivy's assistants!" they said together.

"Well, I'm Lyra," Lyra said, "and my friends and I would like to see Professor Ivy, please."

"Of course," Charity said.

"Professor Ivy is working with the Pokémon," Faith said.

"We'll take you to her," Hope said.

The triplet girls led Lyra and the gang to the beach.

Just then, a Gyarados came out from underwater, which made the gang very surprised, except for Lyra.

"You did very well, Gyarados," a woman's voice said.

The voice belonged to a purple-haired woman, and she was swimming with the Gyarados, a Cloyster, and a Poliwhirl in the sea.

"You three get stronger every day," the woman said.

When she saw Lyra and the gang, she got out of the ocean to greet them.

"Welcome," she said, putting on a lab coat. "I am Professor Ivy."

The gang introduced themselves to her. She recognized the name of Lyra.

"Aren't you Lyra Mew Light?" Professor Ivy asked her.

Lyra nodded and took her hood off, revealing her golden-blonde hair with pink highlights in two low ponytails.

The triplets were surprised—they couldn't recognize her at all. She was the winner of the Indigo League.

"Yes, I am," she smiled. "But how did you know?" Lyra asked.

"Professor Oak told me about your Pokémon," Professor Ivy answered, "and I must say your Pokémon are quite rare and unusual, especially that Gyarados you call Mystic."

"Yes, I get that a lot," Lyra said. "Speaking about Professor Oak, he told me that you had something for him."

"Yes, I do. Please follow me," Professor Ivy said.

Professor Ivy led the gang back to her lab. In a corner of the room, there lay a Poké Ball on a transporter.

This Poké Ball was a gold and white Poké Ball, with the letters G and S on it.

"This is what we call the GS Ball," said Professor Ivy. "We call it that because of the letters G and S on it. The reason why I want you to deliver it to Professor Oak for me is because we can't seem to transfer it or open it."

"That's right," said Faith, "we tried everything to open it."

"We used hammers, crowbars, flamethrowers, screwdrivers, and even dynamite, but nothing worked," Hope said.

Lyra and her two electrics sweat-dropped at the number of things they tried to open it. She was surprised that the GS Ball hadn't been destroyed yet.

"Did you try throwing it like a regular Poké Ball?" Lyra asked.

"We did," said Charity, "but that didn't work either."

Lyra took a good look at the GS Ball.

'I sense something mysterious about that ball… there is another aura inside it, but I can't figure it out,' she thought, scratching her head a bit.

"So," said Professor Ivy, "I trust you with delivering this safely to Professor Oak for me, Lyra." She picked up the ball and gave it to Lyra.

Lyra placed it safely in her side bag.

Next, Professor Ivy and her assistants showed Lyra and the gang the back forest, where all the Pokémon stay.

Misty spotted some Vileplume.

"Wow, those Vileplumes are a bit of a different color compared to the Vileplume on the Pokédex," Lyra said.

Other Pokémon that lived at Professor Ivy's lab were also different colors.

There was a Raticate with dark brown fur, a Nidoran couple with darker versions of their normal colors, some red-colored Paras, and a Weepinbell with a golden-tan body.

"Wow, how come all of these Pokémon are different colors?" Misty asked.

"Well, you see, the tropical climates of this island and the other Orange Islands are different from the climates in Kanto," Professor Ivy explained. "Naturally, the different environment creates differences in the Pokémon that we've raised here. I'm now collecting data and studying how the environment causes variation in all our Pokémon."

Brock was impressed with all of this.
