Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Heart of the Drake

The Supernova Breath was a wall of pure, white-hot annihilation. It wasn't just fire; it was a physical force, a tidal wave of fusion that stripped the top layer of the slag-plate away. Helios, Selene, and Ignis were forced to their knees, their Rank 8 and 9 barriers groaning under the pressure, the golden light of the blast turning the world into a featureless white void.

But within the heart of the furnace, a silhouette of absolute darkness remained unmoved.

Raen didn't just stand in the fire—he anchored himself to the void. The Black-Body Law was operating at a frantic, unprecedented frequency. His skin wasn't just absorbing the heat; it was vibrating, the solar energy being compressed into a microscopic point at the tip of the Axiom Shard.

[SYSTEM OVERLOAD WARNING]

Current Intake: 1,200% of Rank 6 Capacity.

Internal Temperature: Approaching "Nova Threshold."

Axiom Sync: 88%... 92%... 95%...

Notice: Space-Time around the User is beginning to "Thicken."

The Solar Drake sensed the anomaly. Its Rank 10 instinct screamed that the small creature in front of it was no longer prey. It increased the pressure, its golden wings beating with enough force to create localized sun-quakes.

"Too much," Raen hissed, his teeth gritted as his black skin cracked, revealing lines of blinding silver light underneath. "It's... too much for a Rank 6."

"Raen, discharge it now!" Kaelith's voice was barely audible through the roar of the fusion. "If that energy reaches your soul-root, you'll become a permanent black hole!"

Raen lunged.

He didn't run; he used [VOID-WEIGHTLESS] to "fall" forward through the plasma. He reached the Drake's chest, where a pulsing, crystalline core was visible through its translucent scales.

[AXIOM LAW: TOTAL NEGATION]

Raen thrust the shard. It didn't strike the Drake's scales; it struck the concept of the Drake's existence. The massive energy Raen had absorbed from the Supernova Breath was channeled back through the needle in a single, focused line of non-existence.

The result was a Silent Collapse. The Drake didn't explode. Instead, a sphere of perfect darkness expanded from its chest, devouring its golden form in a matter of seconds. The Rank 10 beast was simply erased, leaving behind nothing but a fist-sized, glowing Solar Heart-Crystal floating in the vacuum.

As the darkness receded, Raen collapsed to one knee, the Axiom Shard smoking in his hand. His Rank 6 foundation was trembling, the sudden vacuum of energy after the massive intake causing his mana-veins to go into shock.

"He... he actually killed it," Ignis whispered, staring at the empty space where the Drake had been.

"And he's exhausted," Helios realized, a predatory grin returning to his face. He stood up, shaking off the soot from his shattered armor. "He did the work for us. Selene, Ignis—take the crystal. I'll take his head."

The three heirs moved in. They were battered, but they hadn't just fought a Rank 10 beast. Helios raised his spear, the white-dwarf tip glowing with a desperate, final surge of solar power.

"You really don't learn, do you?" Raen muttered, not even looking up.

Before Helios could strike, the temperature in the Core-Wastes plummeted—a physical impossibility in a place made of liquid sun. A wall of blue, crystalline permafrost erupted from the slag, freezing the plasma sea solid and trapping the three heirs up to their waists in seconds.

"What?!" Helios roared, his fire struggling against the unnatural chill.

From the mists of steam, Elena stepped forward. Her hair was a crown of ice-spikes, and her rapier was drawn, the tip pointed directly at Helios's throat. Behind her, a series of floating, mechanical drones hummed—Kaelith's "Aurora-Sentinels."

"The Trial allows for assistants," Elena said, her voice a calm, deadly chill. "And as Raen's fiancée, I find your lack of sportsmanship... distasteful."

"You... you cheated!" Selene shrieked, struggling against the ice. "You used a ship to bypass the gravity wells!"

"It's not cheating," Kaelith's voice boomed from the overhead drones. "It's high-level optimization. Now, do you want to melt in that ice, or should we just let the next Star-Beast finish you off?"

Raen stood up, his hand closing around the Solar Heart-Crystal. As he held it, the crystal's light was sucked into his palm, and a new notification flared in his vision:

[RANK 6 PEAK REACHED]

Requirement for Rank 7 (Nova-Core): Absorb the essence of a Sovereign-class enemy.

Current Progress: 1/1 Heart Crystals Obtained.

"Keep your lives," Raen said to his siblings, his voice echoing through the frozen wastes. "Tell Aurelius I have the first crystal. And tell him... I'm still hungry."
