Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Storm-Soul’s Signal

The journey to the Shattered Lands was not a simple stroll across a bridge. To leave the Primeval Continent, one had to traverse the Void-Gaps—vast, airless expanses of raw gravitational turbulence that separated the major imperial plates.

Raen and Elena traveled aboard a Solar Skiff, a vessel carved from sun-bleached bone and powered by Raen's own internal heat. But as they crossed the border of the Sun Empire's influence, the golden sky bled into a bruised, electric purple.

"The resonance is off," Elena whispered, her hand resting on the railing, which was already beginning to frost over. "The aether here... it's being agitated by something massive."

Raen stood at the bow, his Black-Body skin humming. His vision, enhanced by his Rank 5 Zenith status, pierced through the purple haze. "Not something. Someone."

From the clouds of ionized gas below, a massive, obsidian shape rose. It was an Abyssal Dragon Cruiser, a living ship grown from the scales of a Rank 15 Drake. Its "eyes"—giant portholes of glowing red energy—locked onto their tiny skiff.

Recommendation: Tactical Retreat... Error. User's "Void Hunger" demands combat.

"They're early," Raen said, his plasma-eyes swirling. "The Trial hasn't even officially begun, and the Dragons are already hunting."

A roar vibrated through the vacuum, a sound that shouldn't have been possible but was carried by the sheer density of the Dragon's Law. A beam of dark, corrosive fire—the Entropy Breath—shot toward the skiff.

"Raen, now!" Elena cried.

She slammed her palms onto the deck. [RANK 5 SKILL: ABSOLUTE SHIELD]. A dome of crystalline ice, reinforced by her Zero-Point Essence, snapped into existence. The dark fire hit the ice, and the two primal forces screamed, creating a wall of steam that blinded everyone.

"Hold the shield, Elena," Raen commanded.

He stepped off the boat, not falling, but walking on the air itself. [RANK 6: SKY-TREADER] was beginning to manifest in his blood. He reached into the steam and grabbed a handful of the dark fire, his Black-Body Law turning the corrosive energy into raw fuel.

But then, the Dragon Cruiser didn't fire again. It exploded.

A bolt of azure electricity, thick as a mountain's base, tore through the sky. It didn't come from the Dragon ship, but from a small, jagged needle of a vessel that had been cloaked in the nebula.

The Dragon Cruiser groaned, its living hull twitching as billions of volts disrupted its nervous system.

From the needle-ship, a figure plummeted toward Raen's skiff. She wasn't falling—she was surfing on a surfboard-sized piece of conductive metal, trailing sparks like a falling star.

She slammed onto the deck of the Solar Skiff, her boots clanking against the wood. She was dressed in copper-mesh armor, with short-cropped dark hair and a glowing blue port behind her left ear.

"If you two are done having a romantic moment in a death-trap, we really need to move!" she shouted over the roar of the engines.

"Who are you?" Elena asked, her eyes narrowing as she kept the ice shield up.

"Kaelith, Lightning Sect. Technomancer Third-Class... well, First-Class after I fix this mess," the girl said, her fingers dancing in the air as holographic displays appeared around her. "The Dragons aren't just hunting you, Sun-Prince. They're harvesting the sector. My kingdom's research outpost was just 'eaten.' I'm the only survivor with the override codes."

"They're coming about for another strike!" Kaelith yelled, pointing at the Dragon Cruiser as it recovered. "My ship's railgun is out of juice, and your skiff is basically a rowboat!"

Raen looked at Elena, then at the frantic Technomancer. He felt a strange pull—a geometric alignment of their three souls.

"Kaelith, can you route my heat into your ship's capacitors?" Raen asked.

Kaelith's eyes lit up with a manic brilliance. "You want to be a battery? I can do more than that. I can make you a Hyper-Nova. But I need the Ice-Girl to stabilize the feedback loop, or we all turn into a new nebula."

Elena nodded, her face grim. "Do it."

The three joined hands. Raen's abyssal heat, Elena's absolute cold, and Kaelith's frantic electronic frequency met at a single point.

The world went white. Not the gold of the Sun or the blue of the Lightning, but a pure, terrifying white that erased the shadows of the Void. A beam of "Equilibrium Energy" shot from the skiff, hitting the Abyssal Dragon Cruiser.

The massive living ship didn't burn or freeze. It simply unraveled. Its atoms lost their bond, turning the Rank 15 threat into a cloud of harmless stardust in less than a second.

Kaelith collapsed onto the deck, breathing hard. "Holy... mother of machines. What are you guys made of?"

Raen looked at his hands. For the first time, the hunger in his core was silent. He looked at the two women—the Ice Saint and the Storm Soul.

"We are the new era," Raen said, his voice echoing in the silent Void. "And the Trial has just begun."
