Chapter 228 - Chapter 228: Don't Believe Me? Let You Hear the Sound

Chapter 228: Don't Believe Me? Let You Hear the Sound

The four men barely made a sound before they breathed their last.

Meng Ci and Shen Que then skillfully took out their knives, removed the bullets from the wounds, and circled around a couple of times to ensure no one could tell the wounds had been burned by bullets.

The patrol team would be back soon, and those who had taken the women out should arrive shortly as well.

Sure enough, less than half an hour later, the eagle ran in.

Meng Ci and Shen Que immediately stood up, ready for action.

This time, Meng Ci and Shen Que had been waiting at the bend. With guns in hand, they quickly took down three men at close range.

The remaining three, seeing the situation was not in their favor, hurriedly used the five women as human shields.

But it was useless. In just two minutes, the three of them fell to the ground, lifeless.

The five women, witnessing those around them drop one by one, were so frightened that they scattered in panic like headless chickens.

However, the chains on their feet bound them together, and as they ran in different directions, they stumbled and fell, collapsing in a heap.

Their screams echoed throughout the tunnel, like sharp knives cutting through the quiet night.

It wasn't until the five women were pulled up by the men that they, fearing their screams would make them targets, quickly covered their mouths, not daring to make another sound.

After dispatching the six men, Meng Ci gestured for the women to leave on their own before entering the tunnel.

Inside the tunnel, the two women, after reaching the very back, fumbled in the dark to free the others. Uncertain whether Meng Ci and Shen Que could handle the situation, they decided to come out and offer assistance.

But after just a few steps, the eagle howled, scaring them back inside.

The group huddled together, encouraging each other.

At the same time, they prayed silently for Meng Ci and Shen Que to kill those men and save them from their misery.

At the very back of the tunnel, there was an iron door, locking more than twenty people inside. Behind it was an undug part of the mountain.

A few blankets were randomly thrown on the ground outside the iron door, stained and already dried.

The air was thick with a familiar, pungent odor, hinting at the horrors that had taken place there.

Seeing that the lock on the door had already been opened, Meng Ci opened the door to let these people leave.

At this point, they hesitated. One woman hiding behind the others pushed the two women in front of her, and only then did everyone start to leave.

It was only after more than twenty women had come out that Meng Ci saw six or seven young men supporting each other at the very back.

They were all thin, walking with a limp, as if they could be blown over by a breeze.

"Howl!" Eagle suddenly howled at the women in front, his voice filled with urgency.

Despite sometimes acting foolishly, Eagle proved reliable in critical moments.

"Wait," Meng Ci said, raising a hand to stop them.

When they were still two or three meters away from the group of women, a woman who had been cowering suddenly threw the iron chain in her hand to the ground in the direction where Eggplant had barked.

Before everyone could react, she pulled out a handgun from her back waist and pressed it against the neck of the woman nearest to her.

Eggplant had barked at the woman because he smelled the gunpowder.

"You're from the military, here to rescue them?"

Since the tunnel was very dark, the imprisoned women and men didn't know what was happening.

So, except for the few people near the woman, everyone else quickly crouched down to avoid being accidentally injured.

"Let me leave safely, or this person's life will end as my burial."

The woman had a fierce expression, her hands rough with calluses, and a long scar running down her face like a centipede, giving her a menacing appearance.

"You'd better think carefully; this gun doesn't discriminate."

The woman who was held at gunpoint grabbed the armed woman's arm with both hands, screaming for help.

"Please, save me, I don't want to die!"

Upon hearing that the armed woman had a gun, the others in the tunnel became anxious. A few people had already slipped out, while others were cautiously moving toward the exit.

Only a few seriously injured people, fearing they wouldn't be able to run fast enough and would become victims of the gun, continued to flee deeper into the tunnel.

The armed woman didn't know how many people Meng Ci and Shen Que had come with. Seeing that they hadn't spoken for a while, her expression became even more twisted.

"What, can't make up your minds? Do you think I'm lying?"

"There are eight bullets in this gun. I'll let you hear one now."

She then fired a shot outward. The shot missed. The second shot hit the leg of the woman being held hostage.

The woman screamed in pain.

"There are six bullets left. Tell me, where should I shoot next to make her suffer slowly?"

The armed woman glared at Meng Ci and Shen Que with vicious intensity.

The gun moved across the woman's body, and the hot muzzle made the hostage tremble in fear and pain, tears and snot streaming down her face.

"Save me! I don't want to die."

"Please, let me go."

Meng Ci and Shen Que remained silent, and even Eggplant and the eagle held their breath.

Just as the armed woman thought that the military personnel had taken the opportunity to escape in the chaos, Meng Ci finally spoke.

"If you want to kill her, go ahead."

"As for us, we're not from the military."

"We're here to avenge my dog, because one of you wanted to eat it."

The armed woman was livid when she heard this.

Shit!

They'd already lost two people during a wild boar hunt, and now they were risking everyone's lives again because they were craving someone else's dog.

The woman with the gun was fuming, her chest rising and falling with rage.

"They've already been killed by you. Why do you have to kill everyone?" The gun-wielding woman quickly calmed herself.

"And I haven't seen your faces. How about sparing my life?"

Meng Ci did not respond. "If we leave any survivors, they'll come back to haunt us."

"You're going down."

Despite her fury, she tried to negotiate.

But at that moment, Shen Que seized the opportunity, raising the hunting rifle and shooting the gun-wielding woman in the chest.

"Ah!"

The woman, already crying from the wound in her leg, panicked when she heard the gunshot, thinking she'd been hit again. She frantically patted herself down.

But she didn't find any new wounds, and then the woman behind her collapsed.

That's when she realized the other woman was dead.

"Alright, she's dead. You all should leave now," Meng Ci said, urging them to go. He planned to search for anything useful inside.

"Yes, yes, yes!"

The woman, holding her leg where she'd been shot and leaning on the wall, hurried out.

The others in the tunnel, seeing the threat was over, quickly followed suit, scared of being left behind if they didn't move fast enough.
