Chapter 32 - Chapter 32: The White Fire

The golden scales on Kai's hands were cracking.

Not breaking.

Evolving.

Beneath the old golden surface, something brighter was pushing through.

A light so intense it hurt to look at directly.

Lyra shielded her eyes.

"Kai—"

"I'm fine," Kai said.

His voice sounded different.

Deeper.

Like something ancient was speaking through him.

The system kept flashing.

[Dragon Sovereign Evolution: Phase 1 — Initiating]

[Warning: Core restructuring in progress]

[Do not interrupt the process]

Kai stared at the alerts.

"'Do not interrupt.'"

He glanced at the Void Emperor floating thirty meters above him.

"Great timing."

The Void Emperor hadn't moved.

It was just watching.

That was somehow worse than attacking.

An ancient ruler capable of erasing entire cities — and it was standing still, studying Kai like he was something unexpected.

Something that didn't belong in its calculations.

The First Dragon Sovereign descended slightly from the upper sky.

Its massive golden form moved with unusual caution.

"Sovereign."

Kai looked up.

"What's happening to me?"

The ancient dragon was quiet for a moment.

"What is happening to you has not occurred in over ten thousand years."

Kai blinked.

"That's either very good or very bad."

"Both," the dragon said simply.

Helpful as always.

The energy around Kai kept building.

Golden light was being replaced by something whiter.

Purer.

Not just fire anymore.

It felt like compressed starlight was being poured directly into his bones.

Lyra floated closer on her magic platform, a thin barrier shielding her from the pressure radiating off Kai's body.

"Your aura," she whispered.

"What about it?"

"It's expanding past the city limits."

Kai looked around.

She wasn't wrong.

The golden-white energy had spread outward like a slow explosion — washing over the ruined streets of Blackridge, over collapsed buildings, over the dragon army still circling the storm-black sky.

Every dragon it touched went completely silent.

Not from fear.

From recognition.

The Void Emperor finally moved.

One slow step forward.

The shockwave from that single step collapsed three city blocks without effort.

Its voice rolled across the sky like a continent shifting.

"Interesting."

Kai cracked his neck.

"Glad you think so."

The emperor lowered its massive head slightly.

Purple void energy coiled around its crown of dark stars like living serpents.

"The last Sovereign who radiated this frequency…"

It paused.

"…destroyed an entire dimension trying to control it."

Kai stared at it.

"You're supposed to be threatening me, not giving me a history lesson."

The Void Emperor almost looked amused.

"I am giving you a warning."

"Because you're scared?" Kai asked.

The emperor's glowing eyes narrowed.

"Because I am curious whether you survive it."

The system exploded again.

[Dragon Sovereign Evolution: Phase 2 — Unlocking]

[White Dragon Fire detected]

[This ability has no recorded upper limit]

Kai looked at his hands.

The fire burning around his palms was no longer gold.

It was white.

Pure, blinding, absolute white.

Lyra's voice cracked.

"Kai… that fire…"

"I know."

"It's burning through my barrier just from the heat."

"I know."

"From twenty meters away."

"Lyra."

"What?"

"I know."

The Dragon Queen swept downward instantly, wings spread wide, creating a shield wall of golden fire between Kai and the surrounding ruins.

Protecting whatever was left of Blackridge.

The First Dragon Sovereign spoke again, voice low and heavy.

"What you are holding right now is not ordinary dragon fire."

Kai looked up.

"Then what is it?"

"It is Sovereign Flame."

A pause.

"The fire that existed before the first dragon was born."

Kai was quiet for a second.

"…Okay."

"That sounds very important."

"It is the only thing," the ancient dragon said slowly, "that void cannot absorb."

Kai turned back to the Void Emperor.

The massive ruler had gone completely still.

Its void energy had pulled back slightly around its body.

Almost defensively.

Kai noticed.

He raised one hand slowly.

White fire curled around his fingers like a living thing.

"So you can swallow everything — except this."

The Void Emperor did not answer.

But its crown of dark stars flickered.

Just once.

Kai smiled.

"There it is."

The system sent one final alert.

[Sovereign Flame: Unlocked]

[First recorded usage in 10,000 years]

[Caution: Power output currently uncontrolled]

Kai exhaled slowly.

The white fire was burning hotter now.

He could feel it trying to expand beyond his control.

It wasn't aggressive.

It was just enormous.

Like trying to hold a star in one fist.

Lyra's voice came quietly from behind him.

"Kai… can you control it?"

Kai stared at the Void Emperor.

The ancient ruler of void stared back.

Ten thousand years of darkness against a fire older than dragons.

Kai tightened his fist slowly.

The white fire pushed back hard.

His arm shook from the pressure.

The First Dragon Sovereign watched carefully.

"Sovereign…"

"I heard you," Kai said through gritted teeth.

"Don't lose control."

"Working on it."

The Void Emperor raised one hand slowly.

Void energy gathered at its palm — dark, dense, absolute.

But it didn't fire.

It was waiting.

Watching to see if Kai would destroy himself first.

Lyra understood immediately.

"It's not attacking," she said sharply.

"It wants the flame to consume you instead."

Kai processed that for exactly one second.

"Smart."

He exhaled.

And made a decision.

Instead of forcing control —

He let the flame breathe.

Just slightly.

Just enough.

The white fire exploded upward in a single column that tore straight through the black sky above Blackridge.

The darkness didn't just retreat.

It burned.

The Void Emperor's hand snapped back instantly.

Even the Void Titan stumbled three full steps backward.

Silence fell across the entire battlefield.

Every dragon. Every abyss creature. Every fragment of void storm.

All of it — completely still.

Kai lowered his hand slowly.

The Sovereign Flame settled around him like a second skin.

Calm now.

Breathing with him.

He looked up at the Void Emperor.

"Still curious?"

The ancient ruler said nothing.

But for the first time since stepping through the rift —

It took one step back.

The war for the multiverse had just changed — and the Sovereign Flame had only begun to wake up.
