The night grew quiet as the cold wind moved across the northern mountains.
Ariana sat near the edge of a small ridge, her arms wrapped around her knees. The sky above was darker here, filled with countless stars that looked closer than before.
Everything felt different in this place.
Quieter.
Slower.
But not peaceful.
Kael stood a few steps away, watching the area around them carefully. Even in silence, he stayed alert.
Always ready.
After a while, Ariana spoke.
"You don't have to keep watching like that."
Kael did not turn.
"Yes, I do."
Ariana gave a small breath.
"I am not going to disappear."
Kael finally looked at her.
"That is not what I am worried about."
Ariana tilted her head slightly.
"Then what are you worried about?"
Kael walked closer and stopped beside her.
"This place is a trial," he said. "Nothing here is simple."
Ariana nodded slowly.
"I know."
Silence settled between them again.
