Chapter 41
The air grew colder as they moved forward.
Ariana pulled her coat tighter around herself while walking along the narrow path that stretched across the mountain. The wind cut through the air and brushed against her skin, making every breath feel sharp and slightly painful.
The higher they went, the harder it became to ignore the cold.
Kael walked ahead of her, steady and focused, as if the freezing air did not affect him at all.
"This place already feels like a bad idea," he said without looking back.
Ariana gave a small breath. "It is."
"At least you admit it," Kael replied.
They continued walking in silence for a while.
The path became narrower with every step, and the drop beside them grew steeper. Thick fog covered the space below, hiding everything beneath it. It was impossible to tell how far the fall would be.
Ariana made the mistake of looking down once.
Her stomach dropped instantly.
"Do not look down," Kael said.
"I already did," Ariana answered.
