Chapter 14 - Chapter Fourteen: An unexpected meeting

Fati gently let go of the grandfather's hand and began studying his medical file. She looked for any detail that could help him; she had promised herself that he would visit the graves of his loved ones this year. Suddenly, the door opened behind her. She didn't need to look to know who it was. The sound of his footsteps and the scent of his perfume told her it was Jaguar.

Jaguar did not speak; he thought she was just another doctor. Fati did not turn around to introduce herself. He walked to the sofa by the window and sat down, talking to someone on his phone. Suddenly, he said:

- I am sure it was her! I saw her get out of a stranger's car and enter the hospital. Check the names of every patient who came here today!

Fati put the file on the bed and took a quick look at him. He looked tired and broken. His shirt was unbuttoned, his tie was loose, and he had lost a lot of weight. She heard him say:

- If I didn't have an important meeting, I would have followed her. I wish I did!

Fati was sure he was talking about her. She turned quickly, avoiding his eyes, and ran out of the room, forgetting the medical file behind her.

Before she could close the door, she heard his last words:

- I am afraid she will try to get revenge by hurting my grandfather. I don't feel comfortable with her being in this hospital.

It seemed he noticed the medical file she had dropped in her confusion. He ended his call quickly and took the file to follow her, but she had already disappeared like a running ghost.

She reached the street, breathing hard, with his harsh words echoing in her ears. She asked herself sadly:

- Does he really think my heart is that dark?

She realized that his hate was still there and that he would never let her treat his grandfather if he knew who she was. She looked at her empty hands and remembered the file was still in the room, but her pride wouldn't let her go back. She decided to leave and find another way tomorrow.

An hour later, Jaguar received a call from his secretary, Dan Dam.

- Sir,

Dan said seriously,

We checked all the records. Mrs. Fati did not come to the hospital as a patient today. Her name is not in any department.

Jaguar gripped his phone tightly, his face turning cold as he looked at his grandfather's bed. At that moment, he was certain: Fati had come specifically to visit his grandfather. He thought to himself in the heavy silence: "What are you planning to do, Fati, after all these years? Did you come to start a new war?"

- Check the security cameras on the VIP floor immediately,

Jaguar ordered. Fifteen minutes later, the video arrived. He stared at the screen in shock; it was her! She had been in the same room with him, just steps away, and he didn't even notice.

He looked at the medical file in his hand. It was his grandfather's file. How did Fati get it? He called the medical staff and asked them to check on his grandfather. They told him the old man was fine and that only the medical team had entered the room. Then, one doctor said,

- Maybe it was Doctor 'Jack Baik'. She started her first day today. She is a top neurosurgeon from Berlin University.

Jaguar was stunned. "Jack Baik"? She had been using his family name all these years! That is why he couldn't find her; he was searching for her under her father's name. She had lived in Berlin for six years, hiding and studying medicine, only to return and visit his grandfather first. He wondered: How did she become a doctor? And who was the man with her?

Fati arrived at her friend Mary's house, carrying the weight of a busy day filled with exhaustion and complex medical cases. However, what truly troubled her was "The Grandfather." How could she convince Jaguar to let her supervise his medical care? She was certain deep down that he would oppose her with all his strength and would never trust her, no matter what she did.

At the dinner table, Cailo announced that he had received a job offer at a prestigious company in a distant city, four hours away by high speed train. While his parents were urging him to accept and he was hesitating, the ringing of Fati's phone broke the silence; it was an emergency call from the hospital for an urgent case.

Cailo insisted on driving her, and despite her attempts to refuse, she gave in to his persistence due to the late hour and the difficulty of finding transportation. Throughout the journey, Fati was immersed in her medical instructions over the phone, explaining to the staff how to handle a patient who had been in an accident and suffered a severe brain hemorrhage.

As soon as the car stopped at the hospital gate, Fati stepped out hurriedly, the phone still to her ear. She turned before closing the door and said firmly,

- Don't wait for me, Cailo... I will be very late.

Cailo wanted to stay to talk to her about his confusion regarding the new job, but she disappeared into the emergency halls in the blink of an eye.

After long hours in the operating room, Fati proved her great skill by saving the lady's life, despite the dangerous situation. She came out exhausted, gave her instructions to the nurse, and met the patient's family to tell them the good news that she was stable.

As she walked through the hospital, she felt dizzy; she had not eaten anything since the morning. A nurse told her about a doctors' breakroom where she could take a nap. Fati decided she would rent a house near the hospital with her first salary to avoid this exhaustion.

However, as she was walking through the first floor hallway, someone suddenly pulled her toward a door leading to the stairs. He put his hand over her mouth, pinning her back against the wall. His face was very close to hers. He looked at her with those cold, dark eyes she could never forget and whispered:

- We finally meet again... Fati

As Fati struggled to catch her breath, Jaguar moved even closer until she felt his cold breath against her ear. He pressed his strong body more firmly against her, pinning her to the wall. He whispered with a tone full of irony and challenge:

- Fati... or should I say, Doctor 'Jack Baik'?
