The first creature to move again was a gargoyle.
It dove directly toward the nun's head, and behind it, three giant spiders advanced across the floor in a triangular formation.
The nun turned toward the descending gargoyle.
"Get out of my way," she said in a low voice, almost bored, as if she were talking to a particularly annoying insect.
She raised her right fist and drove it upward in an uppercut that connected directly with the gargoyle's stone jaw.
The sound was almost like a gunshot.
The gargoyle's head simply disappeared, and the rest of the body was launched toward the ceiling with such force that it embedded itself in the stone, hanging there like a decoration.
'Rose.'
Mark activated the telepathic link with the vampire, without taking his eyes off the scene unfolding before him.
'Tell me you're seeing what I'm seeing…'
'I am,' Rose replied from behind her pillar, her mental voice sounding tense. 'And honestly, I'd rather not be.'
