Chapter 29 - Exams

Jay's POV

Exams. The week every student silently questions their life choices.

The usually chaotic halls of Section E looked like a zombie movie set. Everyone was armed with highlighters and caffeine instead of brains. Even Felix, who always had a joke ready, sat in the corner muttering equations under his breath like a monk.

"Jay, I haven't seen daylight in three days," Jane groaned, flipping through her notes.

"You chose botany as an elective," I reminded her, yawning. "That's on you."

Jare's voice floated from across the table. "I'm dropping out and opening a noodle shop. No exams, just noodles."

C‑in didn't even glance up from his laptop. "You'd still mess up the recipe."

The laughter was faint, tired, but real. It had been days of studying till our eyes burned. Still, even through the stress, I could feel Keifer's gaze sometimes — steady, warm, amused. He'd flash a tiny smirk when I complained about math, and somehow that made the exhaustion lighter.

Then came exam day itself — seven subjects, three essays, and an entire week that felt endless.

Math murdered half of us. Science drained what was left. Literature was my only safe zone. By the time we walked out of the final exam, we looked like ghosts clutching empty pens.

"Never again," Drew declared dramatically.

"Until midterms," Mayo added.

"Stop talking," Rory groaned, face‑planting on his desk.

Two Weeks Later… Results Day 🌤️

The air in class could've been sliced with a ruler. Everyone was pretending to be calm, but the nervous fidgeting said otherwise. Our homeroom teacher, Ms. Clara, entered with a thick folder like she was holding everyone's fate.

"Let's start," she said gently.

Yuri's name was called first.

He unfolded his paper, grinned, and pumped his fist. "98.4! Jane, I owe you dinner!"

Jane squealed. "97.2!"

"You're both disgustingly smart," Felix muttered fondly.

Jare peeked at his. "91.9. I swear, I almost hugged Algebra."

My name came next. My heart hammered as I flipped the report.

96.7.

A wave of relief and pride hit me at once. I couldn't help smiling.

Then came Keifer's turn. He didn't say anything at first — just glanced at the score and lifted it slightly for us all to see.

99.8.

Cheers exploded across the room. Josh started banging his desk like a drum.

"Bro, what are you even made of?!" Blaster yelled.

"A++ DNA," Felix replied solemnly.

And then, not to be outdone, C‑in stood casually and said, "Make that 100."

The class collectively screamed.

"You're kidding!" Eman blurted.

"I never kid about decimals," C‑in said with a small grin.

From there, chaos reigned as results came flying out:

Felix: 79.6

David: 94.6 - damn he sleeps through every lesson and still passes !

Josh: 82.7

Drew: 68.2 (he yelled, "At least I passed!")

Blaster: 71.5

Kit: 87.0

Mayo: 90.1

Edrix: 65.8 (dramatic groaning ensued)

Rory: 76.4

Eman: 94.5

Calix: 88.9

Eren: 93.0

Section E erupted like a festival after that. Some were hugging. Some were fake‑crying. Someone even threw a ruler in victory (no casualties, thank god).

Keifer wandered toward my desk, glancing down at my paper. "96.7, huh? Not bad, sunshine."

I tilted my head at him, trying to hide my grin. "We can't all be robots."

He chuckled, leaning just close enough so that I could hear him over the noise. "Good thing I like humans better."

I blinked, cheeks suddenly warm. "You're such a—"

"Gago?" he teased softly, eyes gleaming.

Before I could answer, Jane's voice sliced through the noise.

"Oh my gosh, are you two being flirty again? Can we get a day off?"

The class burst into laughter. Even josh smirked.

Keifer smirked at me, whispering, "Guess we're not as subtle as I thought."

"Guess not," I said, my smile refusing to fade.

I looked at my grade again — 96.7. Not the top of the class, but maybe the happiest I'd ever felt looking at numbers.

" Saturday, we'll celebrate at the beach " Keifer yelled
