The mansion was quiet.
Sunlight spilled across the bedspread, warm and soft.
Lillian lay curled against Sebastian, her back resting against his chest.
His arms were wrapped loosely around her, steady, grounding.
She let out a contented sigh.
"You're… really warm," she murmured, closing her eyes.
"I told you," he said softly.
"I'll stay like this as long as you need."
Her fingers brushed over his hand.
"…I could… get used to this," she whispered.
Sebastian's thumb traced gentle circles over her arm.
"Good," he murmured.
"…Because I don't plan on moving anytime soon."
She shifted slightly, peeking at him over her shoulder.
"You mean… like… moving in with me?" she teased lightly, her voice soft but curious.
He blinked, surprised at her sudden question.
"…I… I was actually thinking," he said carefully, voice low.
"…if you wanted, you could move in here. With me. I mean… you don't have to decide right now, but… I thought it could work."
Her eyes widened a little.
She hesitated, unsure what to say.
"…I… I don't know," she admitted, voice quiet.
Sebastian's heart sank slightly, misunderstanding immediately.
"…Oh," he said softly, a faint edge of worry in his voice.
"…I… maybe that's… too fast. Maybe I'm pushing…"
"No!" she said quickly, turning to face him, cupping his cheek in her hand.
Her palm was warm against his skin.
"…I would like that. I… Chloe's apartment is too small for both of us, anyway."
He stared at her, surprise flashing across his face.
"…You… would?" he asked, voice low, uncertain.
She nodded, feeling a slight blush rise across her cheeks.
"…Yeah… and… I like… being like this with you," she admitted, her voice soft, almost shy.
Sebastian froze for a moment, eyes wide.
Then a warm, tender smile spread across his face.
"…You… like this?" he asked, his voice gentle, full of wonder.
She nodded again, heart thumping.
"…Yes. Just… like this."
He leaned down slowly, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to her forehead.
"…I'm glad," he whispered.
"I'm really glad."
She felt her chest loosen, the tension of the morning melting away.
"…Me too," she murmured softly.
"…I'm… happy."
He adjusted slightly behind her, wrapping her closer, letting his warmth surround her fully.
"Then… we'll figure the rest out," he said gently.
"…Step by step. Together."
She tilted her head back slightly, resting against him, letting herself absorb the comfort.
"…Together," she repeated, voice quiet, almost reverent.
The room was filled with a soft, calm quiet. Just them.
The sun glinting across the bedspread.
The steady rhythm of their breathing.
Sebastian's fingers traced absent patterns along her arm.
"…You're amazing," he murmured, voice low.
"…I mean it. All of you."
Lillian blushed lightly, nuzzling against him.
"…You're not so bad yourself," she whispered, a small smile tugging at her lips.
He chuckled softly, the sound warm and deep.
"…Not bad enough to make you regret moving in?"
She laughed quietly, shaking her head.
"…Not a chance," she said softly.
"…Not ever."
He kissed the top of her head again, then rested his chin gently near her shoulder.
"…Good," he said, voice soft.
"…Because I don't plan on letting you go."
Her hand slid over his, squeezing gently.
"…I'm not going anywhere either," she said quietly.
"…Promise."
Another long, comfortable silence settled over them.
Just the quiet mansion, the sun spilling in, and the two of them lying together — safe, warm, and finally, completely at ease.
Sebastian tightened his hold slightly, careful, protective, but gentle.
"…We'll figure out everything else later," he whispered.
"…For now… just stay like this. Please."
Lillian's eyes fluttered closed, chest rising and falling against him.
"…I will," she murmured softly.
"…I don't want anything else right now."
And for the first time since morning, neither of them worried about the outside world.
The mansion, the sun, and the quiet intimacy of the moment were all that mattered.
They stayed like that for a long time, breathing together, hearts beating in quiet rhythm, wrapped in warmth, trust, and the kind of comfort that only came from being completely seen — and completely accepted.
A quiet hum of thought drifted through Sebastian's mind, the morning's conversation, the lingering hangover, and now the tender moment with Lillian.
"…You know," he murmured, voice soft and thoughtful.
"…about the smart-home interface project…"
Lillian shifted slightly against him.
"…Yeah?"
"I've been thinking," he continued.
"…after everything that happened with the deal… we're not done. Not by a long shot. I mean, the company tried to pull out, yes… but… we can fix it. We will fix it."
Her brow furrowed slightly.
"…Even after… everything?"
He tightened his hold gently, fingers brushing her arm.
"…Especially after everything. I've got ideas. Plans. And… with you… helping me think through it… I feel like we can actually pull it off."
Her cheeks warmed again, thinking about him, this side of him so human yet still brilliant, still relentless.
"…You really believe that?"
"I do," he said, voice low, firm.
"…And I want you involved. I mean… not just… emotionally. I want you there when we brainstorm, when we… figure this out. Together."
A small smile tugged at her lips.
"…Together, huh?"
"Together," he confirmed, resting his chin gently near her shoulder.
"…Just like this. We'll figure everything else later, step by step. But… I want to start fixing it. With you."
A soft laugh escaped her lips.
"…You're full of surprises, you know that?"
"And you're full of trust," he replied softly.
"…Which is exactly what I need right now."
She nuzzled against him, chest rising and falling with his, heart full.
"…Then I guess we're good," she said quietly.
"…Right here, like this."
"Yes," he murmured.
"…Right here, like this. And then… after, we fix the project. Together. Step by step. Just like everything else."
Her eyes fluttered closed, contentment flooding through her.
"…Together," she whispered.
"And always," he added softly, pressing a gentle kiss to her shoulder.
The sun moved higher in the sky, warm light spilling across the room.
Warmth, comfort, trust, and the faint hope of a future that they would face together filled the space around them.
