Nathan chuffed at the merman's enthusiasm. "Why? So you can dissect them?" He mentally muttered to himself, making sure to block it from Griffin.
[Nathan,] Kael chided, his voice low.
"What? It's a valid concern. Besides, I thought I blocked you."
[Once again, you blocked Griffin. Not me.]
Nathan rolled his eyes. "Whatever."
Tuning back into the conversation, Nathan caught the end of Felix's hyper sentence. "…would love to know everything about werewolf culture! So much knowledge! And thought to be lost forever!"
Dray sat there, a stunned expression on his face. "That's why? You want to meet a werewolf so you can ask about their culture and rituals?"
Felix nodded enthusiastically.
Griffin and Dray sighed heavily, their gazes turned to Nathan. Griffin moved from his chair to kneel beside his mate. "Nathan," he said simply.
Releasing a sigh of his own, Nathan heaved himself upright so he was sitting next to Griffin. Closing his eyes, he let the shift overtake him until he was kneeling, Griffin's arm wrapping around his shoulders.
His eyes still closed, Nathan felt Griffin's attention turn back to their guest. "Felix, meet Nathan. The last member of the Dark Moon Pack."
As the silence stretched for an extended period, Nathan finally opened his eyes. The sight that met him surprised him. Felix's jaw was hanging open, his face slowly turning a bright red. Suddenly, Felix collapsed back into his chair, unconscious.
Dray leapt to his feet, checking on his old friend. After a moment he sighed in relief. "He's fine. I think he forgot to breathe."
Nathan snorted as he tried to reign in the urge to laugh at the ridiculousness of the situation.
Fluidly standing, he picked up the last mug of tea on the tray before making his way over to where Griffin had settled back into his chair, plopping himself into the dragon's lap. "Well, guess we have to wait for him to wake up."
Over the next 30 minutes, while waiting for Felix to wake up, the three of them sat around talking, as if nothing had changed.
Suddenly, Felix bolted upright, gasping. Frenzied eyes darted around the room, taking everything in but seeing nothing.
Slowly, Dray stood and carefully walked up to his panicking friend. "It's alright, Felix," he said softly. "You're alright. Nothing's going to happen."
Dray continued to soothe the merman for several minutes before he was able to calm down. As his eyes locked onto Nathan, who was still sitting in Griffin's lap, he lurched forward.
"You…" Felix breathed. "You're…"
Nathan sat there watching him, an eyebrow raised. "I'm…?"
"A werewolf…?" Felix seemed almost confused as he whispered his question.
A small smirk crossed Nathan's face. "Yes, I am."
Felix sat there, just staring at the small wolf, his mouth hanging open, his eyes wide. Slowly, his lips stretched into a wide grin. "Awesome."
