Chapter 15 - Chapter 14: Crash Landing

Jay POV

The classroom was unusually loud that morning.

Not the normal "3-E loud."

No. This was the suspicious kind.

The kind where everyone suddenly goes quiet the moment you walk in.

I narrowed my eyes.

Something is wrong.

Felix was leaning on his desk trying very hard not to laugh.

Ci-n was staring at the table like it held the secrets of the universe.

Denzel and Drew were whispering while glancing at me every two seconds.

And Keifer?

He was sitting in his chair like a king watching a play, elbow on the desk, chin resting on his hand.

Calm.

Too calm.

I slowly walked toward my seat.

Why are they acting like that…

Josh suddenly covered his mouth.

Felix turned away.

Ci-n looked like he wanted to warn me but was too scared.

That was when I stopped.

I stared at my chair.

It looked normal.

Desk.

Chair.

Nothing suspicious.

I narrowed my eyes again.

Okay… either they're planning something… or they're just idiots.

I dropped my bag on the desk and sat down.

The moment I did—

CRACK!

The chair legs suddenly folded.

"WHOA—!"

I went down with the chair.

Hard.

My back hit the floor and the desk shook loudly. My books slid everywhere.

For one second…

Silence.

Then the classroom exploded.

"HAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Felix nearly fell off his chair laughing.

Denzel slammed the desk. "SHE FELL!"

Josh wiped tears from his eyes. "OH MY GOD!"

Drew pointed at the broken chair. "The chair actually worked!"

Ci-n covered his face. "Oh no…"

I slowly sat up on the floor.

My back hurt.

My pride hurt more.

I stood up, brushing dust off my uniform.

Then I looked straight at Keifer.

He was laughing.

Not loudly.

But enough.

I crossed my arms.

"Oh, congratulations," I said sweetly. "Breaking chairs now? What's next? Removing the floor so people fall into the basement?"

The boys instantly quieted a little.

Keifer leaned back in his chair, smirking.

"Well… if we removed the floor you'd probably still find a way to trip before reaching the hole."

Denzel whispered, "Ohhhh."

Felix grabbed Ci-n's arm. "This is starting again."

I tilted my head.

"You know," I said calmly, "I used to think school bullies had creativity. But you people? You break furniture and call it intelligence."

Josh laughed. "She called them stupid!"

Keifer raised an eyebrow.

"Funny," he said. "Coming from the girl who sat down without checking the chair."

I clapped slowly.

"Wow. Amazing logic. By that thinking if someone walks into a trap it's their fault, not the idiot who set it."

Felix whispered loudly, "She's cooking him."

Ci-n nodded slowly. "She is…"

Keifer leaned forward slightly.

"You talk a lot for someone who keeps falling in our traps."

I smiled sweetly.

"And you talk a lot for someone who sits there like a decorative statue while his friends do all the work."

Drew gasped.

"STATUE!"

Josh slapped the desk laughing.

Keifer's smirk widened.

"Decorative statue? That's the best you've got?"

"Oh no," I said. "I have more."

The boys leaned closer.

I pointed at him.

"You sit there acting like the cold mysterious king of the classroom when really you're just the supervisor of a group of overgrown kindergarteners."

The room exploded.

"HAHAHAHA!"

Felix bent over laughing. "KINDERGARTENERS!"

Denzel pointed at Josh. "That's you!"

Josh protested. "HEY!"

Keifer tilted his head slightly.

"Interesting," he said. "And you're the girl who keeps coming back to the same classroom even though we clearly don't want you here."

I shrugged.

"Well of course I do."

The boys leaned closer again.

"Why?" Keifer asked.

I smiled.

"Because if I left, who would keep you entertained? Watching you people attempt intelligence every day is honestly the funniest thing I've seen."

Drew whispered, "She's fearless."

Ci-n whispered back, "She's insane."

Felix grinned.

"I still say they're a cute couple."

I whipped my head toward him.

"Excuse me?"

Ci-n nodded nervously. "Yeah… like those couples who argue all the time but secretly—"

"Finish that sentence," I said slowly, "and you're next."

Felix raised his hands.

"Relax! I'm just saying! The tension!"

Josh laughed. "They do look like one of those drama couples."

Denzel added, "Enemies to lovers!"

"SHUT UP," I snapped.

But when I turned back—

Keifer was watching me.

Still smirking.

That stupid calm expression.

I crossed my arms, glaring at him.

"Stop looking at me like that."

"Like what?"

"Like you're enjoying this."

He leaned back again.

"I am."

The boys burst into laughter again.

Felix clapped.

"Yep. Definitely a couple."

I groaned and dropped into another chair.

"Unbelievable."

But even as I sat down…

I could still feel Keifer's eyes on me.

And somehow…

That was even more annoying than the broken chair.
