The phone lay on the floor between them.
Ella's final words echoed endlessly through the silence.
The marriage agreement.
Camille looked at Dante.
Dante looked at Camille.
And for the first time since she'd known him, he appeared genuinely blindsided.
Not calculating.
Not hiding something.
Shocked.
"What marriage agreement?" Camille finally asked.
The question came out barely above a whisper.
Dante's gaze snapped toward the phone immediately.
"Ella."
The line remained active.
Ella exhaled shakily.
"I wasn't supposed to find it."
Camille slowly sat down because suddenly her knees felt weak.
"What are you talking about?"
More papers shuffled on Ella's end.
Then
"My father's legal team has been moving assets through multiple holding companies."
Dante's expression darkened.
"So?"
"So one of those companies contains a private agreement."
Silence.
Ella continued.
"A very old agreement."
