Chapter 34 - Retribution pt.1

Thoughts swirled in Solaris's head, being reminded of his mistakes, his capture, and his regret.

Why... Why.. WHY! Why did I touch those marks? Why did I go out that night... why would I save a random girl? Why would I take a right? Why did I do any of this, just to avoid a damned drunk!?

Solaris sat in his prison, one that was only made of stone, one with no door, one that could not be scaled.

He had begun to lose his mind from the countless days he'd been left alone, sitting in the frigid still air. They once brought him food, they once brought him water, yet he knew that they were not going to do that ever again.

He knew that that had been his last meal; he knew that any moment would be his last.

"MALITH!"

Solaris screeched with a dry tone.

The only reason he had yet to give up was for the fact that he wanted to murder, slaughter, tear limb from limb, the being that put him here.

He wanted to torment the demon for as long as possible, he wanted to make an art piece from the corpse, and he wanted nothing more than to kill that being.

***

A being sat before Solaris, a being of immense presence.

A being that sat on a throne, atop countless riches and countless corpses.

He was bound by a golden chain that was digging into his flesh, cutting him as it tightened. The being had a sick grin on its face, revealing perfectly white teeth, all sharp and all hungry.

The hideous yet beautiful creature, known as a demon, began to open and seemed to speak, yet no words left its mouth. for a moment, then the words spoke from a closed mouth.

"You are a delicacy, some would call you perfect."

The words rang in Solaris's head, but he was not sure as to what this meant, yet he really didn't want to find out.

He began to panic and shift within the chains in an attempt to escape, yet no such thing was possible. This was it; he was done for. He was going to be eaten by a demon.

The demon's mouth moved again, and once again the words were delayed.

"yet your not yet ripe, more an image of perfection."

As the words sat in the stagnant air, a feeling of relief rested on his shoulders.

If they place me somewhere to "Mature," then I'll have time to escape!

Solaris hid a grin from appearing on his face and did not speak. No matter what this being was, he dared not anger it.

The demon raised its arm and retracted the chain, slicing some skin as it did, before it shot out in the same direction as Solaris had been. It seemed rigid as it flew through the air.

Yet Solaris could see the slight change as it tensed up, indicating it had caught something, or rather someone.

The chain pulled, beginning a quick retract. After a moment, Solaris saw what it had grabbed.

"EMBER!"

The demon took a few looks at the massive man and the shorter one on the floor before speaking with his delayed voice.

"Ember? I see you are much more of a fine wine than a meal, and with such potent ability to boot. You shall be my toy from now on."

Solaris stared at Ember, the chains wrapped tightly around his body, holding him in the air, as if it were not a chain, but rather a solid item.

Solaris glanced at his arm and realized something grave; the shards were not there, in fact, they were not something he could sense.

That chain interrupts Nova?

This single realization placed a weight onto Solaris as he could not imagine how to beat this demon without using any nova, even the marks required a bit of nova to activate, and that even if he could recollect his shards within the time frame of the demon eating him.

As soon as Solaris finished considering the possibilities, the demon snapped its finger, and two large demons in armor walked in, grabbing solaris by the shoulders and dragging him out of the massive door.

They brought him down many floors of the building, which was most similar to a castle as opposed to a skyscraper.

Before they reached a deep, dark room that had a wet air to it, the air was still frigid and stagnant, yet now it had a wet tinge to the scent.

It was there that Solaris was thrown into the cell he currently resides in, alone, with no interaction with another soul.

***

Days and weeks passed with Solaris sitting alone in this cell. Very rarely did food ever arrive, if at all.

His body was weak and dry; he was starving and tired, and the room was without a bed to sleep on, resulting in no comfortable way to sleep. As time ticked by, Solaris realized that he had a rough life, yet it was not as bad as it could've been.

The only thing that kept his heart stable and his mind at peace was the constant thought of murder.

"I'm gonna kill that beast!"
