Chapter 36 - Retribution Pt.3

Solaris stared at the opening created by his fist, for only a moment, as the wall would soon repair just as it always did. He quickly jumped from his spot onto the ground, and he could feel the frigid air in its entirety, once again.

His violently beating heart continued, as did the warm radiance from his skin, as well as the solid black armor coating it.

Taking a momentary glance at the coating, it seemed to lack a reflection, as if it were pure darkness; all that broke up the darkness was a warm heat pulsing from within.

Assessing his current situation, immediately wanted to kill that bastard Malith, yet even in his current state, he knew that would be impossible.

Solaris began thinking faster than ever before, and then he felt something, something he had not felt in so long. He raised his right arm and quickly gave in to that feeling, shutting his eyes in concentration.

Then, in a single line, a myriad of shards flew at him with a speed not unlike what Solaris could perform. Solaris had long known the extent, or at least the current abilities, of the shards, one of course being that he could allow them to float, another being that they were an extension of himself.

Not just a weapon, but another body part.

This meant that every shard could move as fast as he could.

As the shards approached the weak, frail man, they slowly circled his arms and then traveled under his skin and then slid underneath it.

Solaris attempted, yet he couldn't even muster a smile. It was not as if he wasn't glad to have them back; it was simply that he couldn't imagine being glad at this moment.

"Did you hear that? Where did the shards go!!?"

"Quickly, he can't let him get away."

Two voices sounded from up a staircase, each sounded human, yet Solaris knew they were not.

Having few options, Solaris decided to kill them or at least try to.

Calling the shards, Solaris saw as they slid out from his skin.

As they did, he felt a great shock, yet a shock that was good all things considered. The once shiny and golden-lined shards now had a matte black outer and a slight orange glow from within.

Without thinking, Solaris immediately understood what this meant.

Footsteps sounded one after another as two guards in platinum armor descended the stairs.

One, a tall demon with three horns protruding from the helmet, wielding a copper scimitar.

Another, a smaller one with one horn in the middle of his head, and four arms all holding a crystal Cinquedea's.

"What happened down here, and why is there heat?"

The demons began to look around the hole, which was once a cell. After a small amount of hesitation, the three-horned demon stepped inside and began to look around the small space before calling out.

"There's nothing in here! Let's check down...."

Yet its words died as it did, the demon watched as it saw its neck spewing blood, then its torso, followed by its feet, finally landing outside the cell, still staring at its own body.

Before it could attempt to grab its head, two hands shot through its chest, each holding a palm-sized crystal.

If it had eyelids, they would have risen, as the infinitely black hands crushed the crystals.

Solaris stared at the three-horned demon with disgust and anger, as its eyes lost life.

"This will be your retribution."

A wicked smile spawned on Solaris's face as the words left his mouth, then, leaving the hole in the wall, he turned his head. His face was covered in the deep red of the demon's blood. His bright green eyes shone as they spotted his next target.

The four-armed demon raised its crystal Cinquedea's, ready to fight the beast in front of it. Without wasting any time, it dashed forward to make the first attack. It shot its bottom two arms forward and its others at slight angles in hopes of catching him with the blades, no matter where he dodged.

With a maneuver, Solaris slid backwards, seemingly with no movement, and then his body flipped and flew through the air, or rather slid through the air; he was completely upside down. His eyes locked with the demons, in shock, the demon looked upwards following the movement, and somehow, as Solaris rounded again and landed on the floor, it appeared he was still upside down.

Multiple shards flew towards Solaris, his face displaying an almost arrogant rage or possibly a vindictive glee, as he looked at the severed head, before the faint orange began to glow brighter as his arms shot into the body, digging inside it before grabbing the two crystals, which were only slightly bigger than those of the three-horned demon, and then crushed them with his bare hands.

Taking no time to enjoy the life-draining Solaris turned and began to run. He ran up the stairs and then kept running. He had no idea where he was going; all he wanted now was to get as far away from that dreadful dungeon, and as fast as he could.

The once grotesque smile faded until nothing but a look of panic and fear was left.

Solaris felt a chill run down his spine. He had felt so much rage, and now that he was free, he was simply scared. He wanted so bad to kill that bastard king, and yet he wasn't even sure if he could.

Pull it together, Solaris. You can't be scared; you need to save Ember
