Bernard's POV
Watching Penny step onto the terrace with Philip sent a knife of jealousy straight through my chest. I told myself it was business instincts kicking in. Philip represented a major client relationship, and Penny was one of our most capable team members. Naturally I'd want to ensure everything was running smoothly between them.
That reasoning felt hollow even as I repeated it in my head.
"The Puregrape collection is getting excellent reactions tonight," Cassandra commented, noticing where my attention had drifted. "Sebastian really has impeccable taste in wine selections."
"Right," I responded absently, my focus still locked on the terrace.
"I should probably check the outdoor bar setup," I said, attempting to sound casual. "Make sure the service is running efficiently out there."
"Perfect timing," Cassandra said, her response coming too quickly. "I'll join you. Tonight needs to be absolutely flawless."
So much for slipping away unnoticed.
