Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Night I Was Replaced

The rain fell heavily that night.

Not the gentle kind that whispered against the windows…

but the kind that drowned everything—sound, warmth, even hope.

Daniel stood outside the mansion gates, unmoving.

His white shirt clung to his body, completely soaked. Water dripped from his hair, sliding slowly down his face like silent tears. But his expression remained calm… almost too calm.

Inside the brightly lit house, laughter echoed.

Warm. Carefree. Happy.

Like he had never existed.

Daniel's eyes lifted slightly, staring through the tall glass windows.

He could see them.

His father… smiling.

His mother… laughing.

And standing between them—

Jason.

Just hours ago, Daniel had still believed that, no matter what, he belonged there.

That no matter how cold they were… no matter how distant…

he was still their son.

He was wrong.

"From today onward…"

His father's voice replayed in his head, sharp and unforgiving.

"…Jason is my real son."

Daniel's fingers slowly curled into fists.

Not from anger.

Not from sadness.

But from something far more dangerous…

Realization.

It had all been decided long before tonight.

The way his mother stopped calling his name.

The way his father looked at him like a stranger.

The way Jason appeared… and suddenly everything changed.

Piece by piece, Daniel had been erased.

Replaced.

A car sped past the gate, splashing muddy water onto his trousers.

Daniel didn't react.

Didn't move.

Didn't even blink.

Inside the house, someone raised a glass.

"To family," his father said.

The word felt like a joke.

For a brief moment… something flickered in Daniel's eyes.

Pain.

Raw. Deep. Unspoken.

But just as quickly—

It disappeared.

A faint smile formed on his lips.

Cold. Empty. Unfamiliar.

"Alright…" he murmured softly, his voice barely audible under the rain.

"If that's how it is…"

He took a slow step back from the gate.

Then another.

And another.

Each step quieter than the last… as if he was already fading out of their world.

"You won't have to worry about me anymore."

Lightning flashed across the sky, illuminating his face for a split second—

And in that moment…

Daniel didn't look like a boy who had just lost his family.

He looked like someone who had just made a decision.

A dangerous one.

He turned around.

And walked away.

Without looking back.

Behind him, the mansion glowed warmly in the storm.

Full of life.

Full of laughter.

Full of people who didn't realize…

They had just lost the one person they would one day beg to return.

Because Daniel was never ordinary.

They just never bothered to see it.

And by the time they finally understood…

It would already be too late.
