After Stan Edgar left, Adem was left alone with Cate.
"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked his long-time girlfriend.
"I… Dean Shetty- she and Brink convinced me not to tell you. That- That it was for your own good." She said in a low tone. Her eyes were not meeting his own, staring at the floor instead.
"For my own good huh…" Adem repeated "Funny how you discuss what is for my own good with everyone but me…" he said, but seeing the look of hurt in Cate's eyes made him regret saying it. "Cate… I can't say you did the right thing, especially if what that cunt said about Luke's brother was true."
"It- It is true." She said as a drop of tear fell from her left eye. "I made Luke forget about and ignore his brother's suffering."
Adem took a deep breath as he approached towards her
"You remember what you asked me on our first date?" He asked as he gently cleaned her tears.
"I do. I had asked you 'how do you know who to listen to?'"
"And I told you that 'I don't. Not really. Sometimes there'll be an asshole or two who manages to get one over me, they'll tell me it is for my own good, and I'll believe them only to find out it was to serve their needs. But I think if you find people you can trust and surround yourself with them, you'll eventually know who to listen to.'." He said as a grin blossomed on his face "You just listened to the wrong people. And now, we need to fix this. We can fix this. You and I. Together. Alright?" He asked.
A small smile graced Cate's face as she spoke up.
"Yeah… Together."
— Couple of Hours Later —
"The disgruntled former CEO of Vought, Stan Edgar was found dead in his home. And I say good riddance!" Vought news guy said before Luke turned off the TV and looked towards his door.
*knock* *knock* *knock*
Luke walked over and checked who it was only to see his two classmates.
"Hey Adem, Cate." He greeted the two, "What's up?"
"Luke, can we come in?" Adem asked, there was a tired look on his face which was unusual for the Supe.
"Yeah, sure. Just take off the shoes." He said and they both nod before taking off their shoes and coming in.
Luke walked them to the living room and they sat down.
"I know about the Woods." Adem said, causing Luke's eyes to wander towards Cate.
"Did you tell him?" He asked.
"No, Stan Edgar did. Before he Epstein himself." Adem said.
"Right, and what are you doing here?" He asked. He seemed nervous, not sure what to expect.
"Look Luke, Cate did something bad. They manipulated her to control powerful Supes like you and I." Adem said as Cate was staring at the floor. Not making eye contact with either. "She manipulated your memories regarding the experiments. It- It involved your brother." Adem said and Luke jumped out of his seat, his body suddenly engulfed in flames and clothes turned to dust.
"What the fuck did you do to my brother!" He took a step towards Cate but before he could do anything Adem grabbed him by the throat and slammed him into a wall.
"I need you to calm down Luke. Cate is as much a victim here as you are." Adem lied.
After a moment Luke's flames dwindled.
"I- I'm calm." He said and Adem let him go.
"Luke, I am so sorry for what I did. I thought I was helping you and Adem. That fucking bitch convinced me it was for the greater good!" Cate said
"What happened to Sam?" Luke asked, not caring about Cate's excuses.
"They keep him in a tiny cell, while taking blood samples from him and injecting you with it. It boosts your strength to his level, allowing you to give me a challenge. They are using electro shock to keep him in line. Apperantly he is weak to electricity." Adem explained and Luke felt like shit at that explanation.
He then turned towards Cate, "And you- you made me forget about all this?" He seemed to be getting hostile so Adem quickly moved between them. His eyes were shining bright red.
Luke took a deep breath as he tried to calm his nerves.
"We have to save my brother." He said with conviction.
"And we will, but first let me tell you the truth about Godolkin, Vought, and Homelander." Adem said as he showed him the Flight 37 video and recited what he had learned from Stan Edgar to Luke.
"Jesus Christ… This- This is a lot to take in." Luke mumbled as he sat down.
"Take your time. I honestly wouldn't have believed it if Edgar didn't reveal it all under Cate's power." Adem said to him.
After processing all this, Luke nods his head and asks.
"Why did Edgar even come to you?"
"My guess? He is desperate, and he wanted me to take out Homelander. Edgar probably was too used to dealing with Homelander and thought I would be focusing on the shiny enemy, and forget what he was doing behind the scenes." Adem said with a shrug. "But his fuck up worked out for us. Now we know who is out to get us, we can take care of it. Together." He said as his eyes shoned red for a moment. "That is, if you are in…"
