Chapter 3 - THE SECRET BENEATH THE TEMPLE

Abhishek and Ayush stood in front of the massive stone door. Thick darkness surrounded them from all sides, and the faint beam from the flashlight lying on the ground barely illuminated the place. The underground air felt cold and heavy, almost as if the place itself had been sealed away from the world for centuries.

From behind the door, the sound of someone's slow, heavy breathing could be heard continuously.

Each breath echoed softly through the stone passage.

The sound sent a deep shiver down both their spines.

Ayush swallowed nervously and said in a trembling voice,"Abhishek… I think we should go back. Something about this place feels wrong."

But Abhishek did not respond.

His eyes were fixed on the ancient door.

He felt something strange… an unsettling feeling deep inside his chest. It was as if whatever was behind that door already knew him.

Already recognized him.

Suddenly, the strange symbols carved into the stone surface began to glow faintly.

A soft blue light slowly spread across the carvings.

The flashlight flickered for a moment.

Ayush stepped back in fear.

"Did you see that?" he whispered.

Before Abhishek could answer, the heavy stone door slowly began to move.

A deep grinding sound echoed through the underground chamber as the massive door opened by itself.

As the door opened wider, a wave of icy wind rushed out from the darkness inside.

It felt unnaturally cold.

Ayush instinctively stepped backward.

"This is not good… this is really not good…" he muttered nervously.

But Abhishek carefully moved forward and stepped inside.

Ayush hesitated for a moment, then followed him reluctantly.

Inside was a long, narrow corridor.

The walls were made of ancient stone, cracked and worn by time.

Old paintings covered the walls from one end to the other.

Abhishek picked up the flashlight from the floor and pointed it toward the paintings.

What he saw made his heart sink.

The paintings showed strange and disturbing scenes.

In the first painting, a terrifying dark demon was shown towering over helpless villagers.

The creature looked enormous, its body made of swirling darkness.

It was grabbing people with its massive hands while villagers ran in fear, their faces filled with terror.

Some were screaming.

Others were falling to the ground as they tried to escape.

In the second painting, several sages stood together in a circle.

Their long robes flowed in the wind as they chanted a powerful mantra.

Bright glowing symbols surrounded them, floating in the air like ancient magic.

At the center of those symbols, the same dark demon appeared trapped.

The creature struggled violently against the glowing barrier.

But the sages continued chanting, their faces calm but determined.

Ayush felt uneasy.

"This… this is some kind of story," he said quietly.

"But why is it here?"

Abhishek didn't answer immediately.

He moved the flashlight to the next painting.

The third painting was the most horrifying.

The same four sages were lying on the ground.

Their bodies were lifeless.

Their robes were stained with dark patches.

It looked as if they had sacrificed their own lives.

Ayush stared at the image in silence.

"They… died?" he whispered.

Abhishek nodded slowly.

In the final painting, the demon was shown being sealed beneath the temple.

The sages' glowing symbols formed chains of light that wrapped around the creature.

The temple was built above the prison, burying the demon deep underground.

Ayush felt his breath stop.

"What… what is this place?" he asked fearfully.

Abhishek looked at the paintings carefully before speaking.

"These four sages created a powerful mantra to stop this demon."

"But the price of completing that mantra was their own lives."

He stepped further inside the corridor.

The air grew colder as they moved forward.

Soon they reached a large circular chamber.

At the center of the chamber was a massive stone circle carved into the floor.

Ancient symbols covered the surface.

Thick iron chains surrounded the circle.

At the ends of those chains were four heavy iron shackles.

Abhishek pointed toward them.

"Look… these are the four shackles."

"Maybe they were sanctified by the sacrifice of those four sages."

"And these very shackles are what bind the demon… so it can never escape."

Ayush's heart began racing.

"So… what happens if those shackles break?"

Abhishek answered in a quiet but serious voice.

"Then the demon will be free."

At that exact moment, a slow voice echoed from the darkness ahead.

"Yes… I am right here."

Both boys froze instantly.

The voice sounded calm.

Almost amused.

They slowly turned toward the sound.

In the center of the chamber, within the circle of chains…

a swirling shape of dark smoke floated in the air.

The same shadow.

The same shadow Abhishek had seen in his nightmares again and again.

Ayush stepped back in fear.

"That… that's it…"

The dark smoke slowly began to change shape.

It twisted and stretched until it resembled a human figure.

But its face remained hidden in darkness.

Only its glowing red eyes could be seen.

The shadow laughed.

Its deep laughter echoed through the chamber like distant thunder.

"At last… you have come, Abhishek."

Abhishek felt his heart skip a beat.

"How do you know my name?" he asked.

The shadow drifted closer.

But the chains tightened, stopping it from leaving the circle.

It smiled.

"Because your grandfather was the one who awakened me."

Abhishek's heart began pounding.

"My grandfather… where is he?"

For a moment, the chamber fell silent.

Then the shadow spoke softly.

"He tried to stop me."

"But he failed."

Abhishek's eyes widened.

"You… killed him?"

The shadow laughed again.

"No."

"I imprisoned him."

Abhishek stared at the creature in disbelief.

"What do you mean?"

The shadow pointed behind itself.

A faint light appeared on the stone wall behind the creature.

In that dim light, a figure could be seen chained to the wall.

Ayush gasped loudly.

"That… that's your grandfather!"

Abhishek felt his chest tighten.

It was truly him.

Dhyan Chand.

His grandfather looked weak and exhausted, his clothes torn and dirty.

But he was still alive.

Slowly, the old man lifted his head and looked toward Abhishek.

"Abhishek… run… leave this place…" he said weakly.

But the shadow laughed again.

"It's too late now."

"The same power that brought your grandfather here… has now brought you."

Abhishek clenched his fists.

"I will never let you escape from here!"

The shadow tilted its head.

"That decision is not yours to make."

"Because the key to this prison… lies in your blood."

Suddenly, the stone circle beneath them began to glow brightly.

The chamber started shaking.

The iron chains slowly began to crack.

Ayush panicked.

"Abhishek… do something!"

But Abhishek had already realized the terrible truth.

His presence there was weakening the prison.

And if the chains broke completely…

the demon would be free.

The shadow slowly smiled.

"Welcome… to the moment of my freedom."

The final chain began to crack.

And at that moment—

Abhishek suddenly remembered a mantra written in his grandfather's ancient book.

But the question remained…

Could that mantra imprison the demon once again?

Or

would tonight become the night when the village of Niwasgarh was destroyed forever?
