Chapter 108 - Chapter 108: Beth

Chapter 108: Beth

After discussing with Morales, Caesar said to him, "Alright, go back and rest. Tomorrow morning, ask Glenn and the others what they found."

"Okay." Morales nodded and left, leaving only T-Dog behind.

T-Dog's eyes rolled. Looks like I'm on duty again, he thought.

After Caesar returned to the stone house, the aroma of food seemed like a hand, drawing out the hunger in Caesar's belly.

Several dishes were arranged on the dining table, along with a soup.

The dishes were made very well, fragrant and appetite-inducing, looking excellent—clearly delicious at first glance.

Caesar looked at the table with delight, his eyes lighting up.

"Ta-da~ Today I worked for a full two hours to make this whole table of food, so you can't say it tastes bad~" Amy came out from the kitchen carrying two bowls of rice. Seeing Caesar standing there in a daze, she said proudly.

"Even if it doesn't taste good, you have to eat all of it."

"Yes, yes. Mission guaranteed!" Caesar changed from his gloomy mood outside, his face full of smiles as he took the rice bowls from Amy's hands and set them on the table.

The two sat close together. Although the table was large, the dining room still felt warm.

"Eat, eat!" Amy handed chopsticks to Caesar and picked up a piece of braised pork to put in Caesar's mouth.

Caesar bit into the braised pork, closed his eyes and frowned, his brows knitting together as if the taste was poor.

"Uh..." Amy couldn't tell whether Caesar was enjoying it or finding it awful. "Say something!"

"Ah—" Caesar opened his eyes, his eyebrows relaxing as he said with enjoyment, "It's heavenly!"

Amy glared at Caesar without humor but continued putting meat in Caesar's bowl.

Once Amy started, she didn't stop, piling Caesar's bowl high with glistening meat shining at the top.

Caesar ate rapidly, wolfing down the food.

What else could he do? He'd been out all day wearing heavy combat gear, having to stay completely alert and guard against all directions—his physical consumption was enormous.

Soon, Caesar had nearly finished off the entire table of food.

Amy ate a bowl of rice along with her favorite dishes and was quite happy.

Having a mukbang right in front of you really does increase appetite.

Amy leaned back in her chair and tucked her small hand into Caesar's rough large hand, restlessly drilling around inside his palm with her little hand.

"Is the situation still not good today?" Amy's gaze rested on their clasped hands as she asked casually.

Caesar shook his head without sighing, applying a bit more force to wrap his palm around Amy's restless little hand. "Black Pine Valley is indeed remote—there aren't any construction sites, and the nearby small towns don't have many supplies either."

"Food, water, medicine—these things were looted long ago. We picked through and took some daily necessities."

"Are you going to Atlanta then?" Amy's little hand stopped moving, her palm breaking out in cold sweat. She glanced at Caesar, then quickly lowered her gaze.

Seeming to sense Amy's worry, Caesar reached out to pinch Amy's chin. With a little force, Amy's mouth pouted into an O shape.

"Not for now. There are still some areas nearby we haven't searched. We can find something."

This was a lie.

Amy knew that the nearby areas had basically all been searched. As Caesar's secretary, Amy knew the movements of almost all combat squad members.

She naturally understood that Caesar was under great pressure now. He was lying only to keep her from worrying.

Then there was no need to expose her lover's concern. Amy nodded and showed a sweet smile.

"Go take a shower. I'll clean up."

"Okay."

Two days later.

Under a heavy, oppressive atmosphere, the convoy returned to Black Pine Valley.

The heavy trucks at Buffalo Pass opened, and the convoy drove through.

Caesar opened the car window and looked out at Merle, asking, "How are Glenn and Daryl's situations?"

Merle stood with his hands on his hips, shaking his head helplessly.

He knew how important these building materials were, but these past few days of frantic searching had turned up quite a bit of food.

Construction sites, however, were pitifully rare. The few that existed were just small sites hired to build private homes.

There was no rebar or steel plates, and cement was pitifully scarce.

Moreover, bagged cement only had a shelf life of three to six months. After collecting it, they'd still have to pick through it carefully.

They might even have to make their own in the future.

Caesar had a bit of a headache. The urgent matter was to block up the gate at Buffalo Pass.

Without a gate, Caesar had no sense of security when going out.

They returned relatively early today. The evening glow still lingered at the edge of the sky.

The sunset was like a lake in the sky, rippling outward in layers of red afterglow.

When Caesar returned to the council hall, Hershel and Beth hadn't left yet.

Today Beth had accompanied Hershel, and she could also wander around town—a rare experience in the apocalypse.

"Good afternoon, Hershel." When Caesar saw Hershel, he raised his hand in greeting.

Seeing Caesar's dusty and travel-worn appearance, Hershel frowned and thought for a moment. "From the look of you, you didn't find any construction sites."

Caesar didn't hide it and nodded. "Since we can't find any, we'll try our luck in Atlanta."

Hershel knew how dangerous Atlanta was. A few days ago, Dr. Jenner had directly shattered his delusion, and he no longer saw walkers as sick people.

He understood the walkers' aggressiveness very well.

"By the way, this is my younger daughter, Beth." Hershel patted Beth's shoulder in introduction.

Beth stood gracefully before Caesar, her doe-like eyes blinking, sparkling inside, wearing an outfit full of youthful energy, looking quite petite and adorable.

Her blonde hair was casually tied in a high ponytail, which not only didn't look competent but made her appear even more adorable.

She looks so different from before.

Beth's eyes shone with fascination. When Caesar had visited Greene Farm last time, Beth could only watch from afar. She hadn't shown herself throughout the entire process.

From her family's descriptions, Caesar was a domineering, capable leader.

Now it seemed—mm, he was also very good-looking.

Beth's thin lips pressed together. "Hello, my name is Beth."

Beth's voice was soft and delicate.

Caesar smiled politely. "Hello, Beth. Just call me Caesar."

Suddenly, Caesar said on impulse, "How about I drive you back to the farm?"

"Huh?" Hershel was startled.

During this time, Hershel had been driving himself here and driving himself back.

He brought grain seeds and fruit trees and vegetables and such.

Fortunately, Caesar had also given him some things, so it wasn't really using the vaccine as bait to get something for nothing.

"Yes, I'll drive you."

Caesar didn't explain anything. It was mainly difficult to explain—he had a faint sense of foreboding in his heart.
