Chapter 107: Suspicious Targets

Guillermo and Hershel, their inner melancholy flowing down with the liquor, both fell into a deep sleep.

Afterward, patrol team members carried them to Guillermo's cabin to rest.

The two of them slept soundly.

When Caesar was handling affairs in his office, Amy stood beside him and said with a smile, "You have no idea how drunk those two got."

"I heard Hershel's face turned completely red, like a tomato."

Amy took small steps and walked in front of Caesar, gesturing animatedly with her hands with great interest.

As she moved, Amy's neat ponytail swayed gently, her golden hair looking especially holy in the sunlight.

Caesar's gaze wandered over Amy's slender legs, slowly moving upward, stopping at her full, rounded curves.

Amy's face had somehow become flushed with color, her hand movements stiffening a bit as she continued speaking haltingly.

She could already predict what was about to happen.

In broad daylight... how absurd!

Click—the door closed.

The blush on Amy's face spread to her ears, which felt especially hot, as she said softly, "You... be gentle!"

"Mm..."

...

In the afternoon, Caesar put on his combat gear, preparing to lead his people out beyond Black Pine Valley.

Amy came running out and glanced at Caesar. "Caesar, Hershel still hasn't woken up."

"What about the planting lessons?"

Caesar stopped what he was doing and waved at Morales.

Morales walked toward the team members. "Hurry up and organize your equipment, make sure nothing's missing, check each other, quickly..."

Caesar walked over to Amy. After thinking for a moment, he remembered that Hershel hadn't come alone this morning.

"Where's Maggie?"

"Her?" Amy was startled. "She's wandering around town with Glenn."

Amy looked at her watch. "Right now she should be at Glenn's place."

"That fast!" Caesar's eyes widened. That was progressing way too quickly.

Uh... actually, maybe it was normal. The two of them had slept together after only meeting a few times—a true "lightning war."

"Not like that! Where's your mind going?" Amy's beautiful blue eyes glared at Caesar.

"The town is still too small, after all. There aren't many places for them to go on a date, so they're playing games in his room."

Caesar froze slightly, bent down, and leaned close to Amy. "You believe that?"

Caesar's expression practically screamed "you're way too naive."

Seeing it made Amy's face flush. "Oh, fine, I get it! I'll go call Maggie. The planting lessons will definitely happen as scheduled."

Caesar stopped looking at Amy with that teasing expression. "Anything else?"

Amy glanced around furtively like she had a guilty conscience, then beckoned to Caesar with her little hand, a fox-like cunning hidden in her eyes.

Caesar pretended not to notice anything and leaned over in apparent confusion.

Amy whispered in Caesar's ear, her soft breath tickling his ear like a feather.

"There's one more thing—I'll miss you, and you have to miss me too~"

Amy intertwined her fingertips and clasped her hands behind her back, standing on her tiptoes, feeling like an emotional master with a smug expression that said "I got you."

The corners of Caesar's mouth had turned up at some point. He reached out and affectionately pinched Amy's cheek. "I'll miss you."

With that, Caesar hugged Amy and kissed her forehead, cheek, and lips.

After the two said goodbye, Caesar got into the heavy truck.

Once the convoy was organized, they quickly started moving.

Caesar took the map T-Dog handed him and carefully studied the areas around Black Pine Valley.

"Morales, have you checked all the construction sites in the area?"

The map only had the names of surrounding regions—it wouldn't have construction sites marked on it.

Caesar could only find people who were familiar with the outside locations and have them make some annotations on the map.

After the annotations were made, Caesar personally went out to investigate which sites had the building materials he needed.

Not only did he go himself, but the three squads led by Daryl, Merle, and Glenn also went out from time to time.

However, almost every place they went turned out to be empty.

First, the areas near Black Pine Valley were remote to begin with, so there weren't any construction sites.

Second, they barely managed to find a few construction sites, but when Caesar and the others arrived, they found most were abandoned projects—neither inhabited nor with any remaining building materials.

Caesar looked at the several red X marks on the map and sighed, looking at his destination and muttering, "I hope we can find a construction site with plenty of materials today."

"Damn it, nothing again today!"

Caesar irritably slammed the car door and walked slowly toward his stone house.

Morales and T-Dog followed beside him. Morales's steps were also heavy. "We haven't found anything these past few days. I think there are no more suitable construction sites near Black Pine Valley."

T-Dog glanced at Morales, his eyes carrying a hint of resentment, and managed to add, "Yeah... I think so too."

Caesar, walking in front, paused and turned to look at Morales. "Did you ask Hershel? He's lived in this area long-term, so he should be familiar with it too. Does he know of any construction sites that meet our requirements?"

Morales stopped walking as well and shook his head. "Hershel said there aren't any construction sites around here. Nobody comes to build houses, and even if someone does build, they just hire people to build their own house."

"Then the only place we can be sure has construction sites is Atlanta." Caesar said slowly, his eyes somewhat complicated.

Actually, everyone knew Atlanta had abundant supplies—no shortage of food or clothing, and construction sites were everywhere.

The problem was there were too many walkers in Atlanta.

Caesar was confident he could lead people into Atlanta and get out safely, but collecting building materials in Atlanta would make it very difficult to guarantee his companions' safety.

Moving materials at a construction site would take at least several days.

Caesar wasn't confident he could keep the surrounding area clear of walkers for several days. Once there were walkers, there would inevitably be groups of them.

In the city, the walkers' group effect was maximized. When you see one walker, don't hesitate—run immediately.

Because next, a large wave of walkers will follow behind that walker and charge at you.

The city terrain was also very narrow. Once you got trapped in an alley, death was certain.

This was different from apocalypse novels. The walkers' greatest advantage was their numbers and their fearlessness of death.

If walkers couldn't beat you, they'd swarm you and overwhelm you with numbers. Even if you had obstacles for cover, facing such quantities of walkers, they could simply push through the obstacles.

Caesar thought for a moment and said, "We'll search for two more days, trying to sweep through all the suspicious targets in the surrounding area."
