Chapter 2 - CONFRONTATION WITH THE CAT

[A/N: The last chapter I'm uploading before I prepare for my exams]

Finishing his lunch, Meguna decided to walk around the campus. The quiet break from the crowded cafeteria was a welcome change, and for once he could move without being surrounded by curious voices and admiring stares.

As he walked along the stone pathways, several students who had already taken notice of him earlier greeted him the moment they saw him.

"Fushi-san!"

"Hey, it's the new guy!"

A few girls waved from a distance, their faces lighting up the moment he passed by.

Meguna paid none of them any attention and simply kept walking, his expression as unreadable as ever.

He eventually moved farther away from the main playground and the constant attention he had been receiving. The noise of students laughing and talking gradually faded behind him, replaced by the quieter atmosphere of the less traveled parts of the campus.

With his hands in his pockets, he silently inspected the grounds, his eyes moving over the neatly maintained gardens, the paved walkways, and the older sections of the academy.

Soon, he came across the old school building. Unlike the modern white structures of the main campus, this building carried a more aged and mysterious charm. Its weathered walls and old-fashioned windows stood as a quiet reminder of the academy's history, giving the place an atmosphere that felt separate from the lively world of the main school grounds.

'Hmm, this place isn't so bad' he thought.

'Seems like money isn't a problem for the supernatural' His lips almost curved into a faint, amused expression. 'Well, who am I kidding? They're devils. It's only natural that money isn't a problem for them.'

His thoughts paused for a moment.

'Unlike me, who could be counted as supernatural, I was born as something closer to a cursed womb death painting, with relatively middle-class parents.'

As Meguna turned to walk away from the building, he sensed something. Someone was watching him, his gaze slowly shifted upward.

Through one of the windows of the old school building stood Rias Gremory, the school's famed beauty.

The daylight from the window fell across her crimson hair, giving her an almost regal presence even from a distance.

Meguna, still with his hands in his pockets, gave her a brief stoic glance before continuing to walk away. 'She does look stunning, not gonna lie' his mind admitted.

"Meguna Fushi… you really do seem like an interesting individual," Rias said as she watched him walk away, her loyal queen still standing by her side.

"Akeno, it seems that your hunch might be right." The words left her lips as she stepped away from the window.

----

On the way back to the main building, Meguna spotted Issei and his two friends peeking through a hole near the girls' changing room by the kendo club. He stared at them for a moment, unimpressed.

Then his eyes moved toward a nearby tree. Without a word, he lowered the output of his Dismantle and silently sliced off a small branch without the need for any chants.

He picked up the branch from the ground and, with a casual flick of his wrist, threw it toward the window just above the hole the three perverts had been peeping through.

The branch lodged itself neatly into the frame. One of the girls inside noticed it.

Her eyes shifted to the small note attached to it.

After reading it, her expression changed instantly, and she quickly informed the others.

Motohama adjusted his glasses.

"It seems like they're talking about something."

"Eh? Where are they going?" Matsuda said with slight disappointment.

The boys waited for the girls to return, but instead they heard a voice from behind them.

"Oh, it's you guys."

The moment they heard the voice, Issei and his friends froze in shock.

They slowly turned around and saw everal girls stood behind them, kendo sticks in hand, veins visibly popping on their foreheads.

"Wait a second—" Issei and his group pleaded as sweat ran down their heads.

As Meguna walked back, he could hear the screams of the three boys echoing from behind him. 'Seriously, what's wrong with these kids?' his mind voiced.

----

The next day, when Meguna arrived at school, his eyes immediately landed on Issei walking through the gates with a girl beside him.

For the first time that morning, a faint smirk curved across his lips. 'Finally' he thought.

Not long after, Issei's two friends arrived as well. The moment they entered the classroom, they practically collapsed onto their desks, tears streaming down their faces in exaggerated misery.

Their heads rested against the wooden surface as they cried at the cruel reality that Issei had somehow managed to get a girlfriend while neither of them had.

Meguna briefly glanced at the pitiful scene before turning away without a word and quietly taking his seat. Soon, the bell rang, signaling the start of class.

----

While walking back home later that day, Meguna stopped by a nearby store to buy some snacks.

After paying for his snacks and stepping out of the store, he felt a presence. Someone was following him. His expression remained calm, but his eyes narrowed slightly.

Rather than confronting the stalker immediately, Meguna decided to walk around the town. He moved from one street to another, deliberately changing directions, taking turns that made little sense, and circling through different parts of the neighborhood.

The one tailing him continued to follow.

Koneko kept moving after him from place to place. Just when she thought he was finally about to stop, he would begin walking again.

And when it seemed like he was heading home, he would simply circle around the town and end up back near the playground.

It was clear by now that he was doing it on purpose.

The repeated detours and loops seemed to be gradually irritating Koneko. Eventually, Meguna came to a stop inside the playground. The place was empty, with no one around.

There was no need for whoever was following him to continue hiding. "Come out," he called out, his voice sharp and commanding.

"I know you've been following me since I left the store." no answer came. Without warning, Meguna sent out a low output Dismantle in the direction where he sensed the presence.

Koneko suddenly felt something brush across her face. When she touched the spot, her fingers came away from a thin cut. Her eyes widened slightly as she realized she had been struck by an invisible slash.

A moment later, she leapt out from the bushes and immediately drove a fist toward him which meguna caught effortlessly.

'I see some similarity between her and Yuta' his mind noted as a small smirk appeared.

Koneko quickly jumped back and took up a fighting stance. Meguna stood there with one hand still in his pocket, his posture relaxed and almost mocking. "Look, brat, I'm gonna ask nicely," he said, his tone edged with warning. "Stop stalking me, or else you might regret it."

Koneko remained in her stance, her eyes fixed on him."What are you?" she asked.

Meguna slipped his other hand into his pocket as well and replied, "Something you'll learn soon enough."

Koneko continued to stare at him, unconvinced. Meguna continued,"Don't worry. I won't be meddling with your devils or supernatural affairs unless it's necessary."

With that, Meguna turned and left Koneko standing alone in the playground. Soon enough, she also left to report back to her king.
