The moment my eyes landed on the label...
I froze.
Birth Control.
For a long moment...
I simply stared at the small container in my hand.
Then I remembered.
The day after we reconciled.
She'd told me she wanted to buy a few things.
Instead of going shopping, she'd gone into the plaza where the pharmacy was.
Back then...
I hadn't thought much about it.
Now...
Everything suddenly made sense.
My fingers slowly tightened around the bottle before I carefully placed it back exactly where I'd found it.
Maybe...
She still didn't trust me.
Or maybe...
She simply wasn't ready.
Either way...
I couldn't blame her.
I quietly closed the drawer before glancing toward the bathroom door, where the sound of running water still echoed softly.
Then I walked over to my side of the room, picked up a cigarette and my lighter, and stepped onto the balcony.
The cool morning breeze brushed against my face.
I lit the cigarette.
Taking a slow drag, I let the smoke disappear into the air.
