"We should leave, Angela."
I looked up to see Uncle Steve walking back into the living room.
His eyes moved between the two of us before one brow lifted slightly.
"Or did I interrupt something?"
"No, you didn't," I replied calmly before instinctively looking behind him.
"Where's Alicia?"
"She went upstairs to check on the children," he answered.
"Didn't you notice when she walked past?"
I shook my head.
My attention had been elsewhere.
"I'll go check on her."
I had barely taken a step toward the staircase when I heard soft footsteps.
I looked up.
A moment later, Alicia appeared at the top of the stairs, carefully walking down while holding both little girls by the hand.
A smile found its way onto my lips.
The two of them descended slowly, Aimy and Bella quietly following beside her.
"Why didn't you ask me to help you bring them downstairs?" I asked as they reached the bottom.
She smiled faintly.
"It wasn't any trouble."
