What have I just witnessed?
104 literally opposed in the very first day.
The argument was so intense that even the woman paused a second. But why? 104 should have won. She had clearly lost the debate.
Then, my eyes widened.
I remembered a word that he used in the fight.
''It's Control''
So, That meant 104 dug his own grave. He knew whatever discussion he had with woman, it would always end in defeat. Why? why he did this?
I really can't understand.
My phone suddenly rang.
I opened the email that sent to me. It contained an application that allowed us to choose our own rooms.
I selected the second floor. I hate climbing stairs. It's the last thing I want to do here.
Less stairs, less effort.
The room selection screen appeared.
Where should I choose?
Which place would disturb me the last?
After a moment, I decided. The corner room.
Fewer neighbors. Perfect. I stood up and began to walk.
I left the meeting room and looked at the sign.
I am indicated to walk 100 meters to reach stairs. I started walking hastily.
I want to see my new room. I hoped it was bigger than my old one. I wanted to do my ironing more efficiently.
I arrived at the stairs. The staircase was long. I almost wanted to cry.
I started climbing anyway. My knees cracked with every step. I had been sitting for too long.
I kept climbing.
Step after step. Finally, the second floor.
I stopped for a moment to catch my breath.
The hallway was quiet. Too quiet that my footsteps echoed through the corridor.
The corridor was painted in a pale yellow. Too clean and emiting the sound.
Along the walls, there were power outlets placed at strange intervals. I couldn't understand why they were there.
It left... purposeless.
On my left side, the wall suddenly opened into a wide gap. A glass railing stood there, seperating the hallway from the empty space bellow.
I leaned slightly and looked.
And bellow, another corridor.
Identical.
Same door, same lights, same silence. Small staircases connected the levels. They were everywhere and narrow.Just wide enough for four people and I couldn't tell where most of them led.
I looked at my phone again to see the exact location.Or else, I will be lost.
I checked the location.
My room was somewhere to the right. I looked up.
A corridor stretched in that location. The lights were dim. Almost dark.
For a second, I hesitated. Then I started walking again.
The sound of my footsteps echoed softly across the empty hallway.
The further I went, the darker it became.
I finally reached the end of the corridor.
Finally, my room is in sight. It was the left door. I stepped closer to the door.
A small card reader was placed beside it. I took my card on my neck and scanned it. A soft beep followed and the light looked green.
I stepped inside and door clicked shut behind me.
I reached for the light switch. There it is. The room is lit enough to see the furniture clearly.
The room was small. A small square window on the far side and a bed beside it. I sighted.
This would be my corner of the complex. Why the corridor was so dark anyway? I will need to get a flashlight.
I set my bag in the corner.
Stepped back and let my eyes wander. The dresser came first.
I opened one cautiously. Inside, a laptop, a small notebook and a single pen.
Another drawer held a laptop bag, leaning against the side.
And nothing else except the blankets in the cabinet.
I approached the kitchen side. There was a toilet door at the end of it.
I aproached and opened the fridge.
There was a bottle of water. Without a single hesitate, I started drinking. I am not fasting or anything. I should be drinking more water.
I throwed the bottle in the rubbish bin.
Then, I approached to my bag to get my ironing board and ironing machine.
I established in the middle of the room. After that, I approached the tap to fill the ironing machine.
I filled it and plugged in in front of the ironing board.
While I was waiting for steam to rise, I took out my formal clothes to iron them.
Steam rose for a minute. Warmth spread slowly. Hand over hand, I pressed the fabric. Each pass made it smoth.
The sound of iron filled the room. Rhythmic, repetitive, almost comforting.
I paused and looked around. I was alone In the room. At the very corner of this massive building. And got a chill with that thought.
Back to work, I folded the last piece of the clothing.
Stepped back and looked around again. The room felt smaller than I imagined.
I walked across the window and stepped closer to the window.
Fog blurred the far edges.
I wonder how big this place is.
I weared my nightwears and closed the lights.
The room was pitch black.
I lay down on my bed.
The room was uncomfortably quiet. I let my toughts take over me.
Today was my birthday... and I'm alone again. I don't even know how many years it's been like this.
