Kurumi dropped from above like a sleek black cat, light and silent.
She took her time looking over the two cursed spirits in front of her.
Their appearances were something she could barely tolerate, but there was no questioning their identities. Both of them were special grade curses.
A curse with intelligence had a far clearer sense for its own kind than humans ever would.
She could even feel that the one with the volcano for a head was noticeably stronger than the one with the "cursed hairstyle" standing beside him.
Of course, whether they were strong or not, Kurumi did not particularly care.
Right now she cared about just one thing.
Someone had just said they wanted to rampage through this city.
On her turf.
Did they really think she would allow that?
Not to mention, a certain person was currently in this city as well.
She absolutely could not let them disrupt her plans.
Mahito smiled pleasantly. "My name is Mahito. A pleasure to meet you, Miss Nightmare."
"Jogo," the volcano-headed curse said bluntly.
Kurumi just shook her head with a smile. "I am really not that interested in what your names are."
"Tch."
At that attitude, Jogo's face visibly twisted with displeasure.
This one really did not know how to talk.
At the same time, he completely accepted Mahito's earlier conclusion.
Aside from Tokisaki Kurumi, there were no powerful curses left in this city. They had definitely all been wiped out by her.
The moment they stepped into this place, she had been watching them.
Was that really necessary?
Jogo's opinion of her dropped even further on instinct.
"Talk," Kurumi said. "What are you two doing in Sendai City?"
She pointed her guns at Mahito and Jogo. "Depending on your answer, I will either drive you away, or exorcise you."
"...!"
Both of them raised their brows at that.
Was "exorcise" really something a curse should say?
Saying that to other curses was nothing short of a direct provocation.
Jogo already had a short temper, and you could see steam beginning to rise from inside his volcano head.
Mahito, however, kept smiling from beginning to end, which somehow made him even more unpleasant to look at.
"We came to Sendai City hoping Miss Nightmare would consider joining us," Mahito said, finally revealing their goal.
"Join you?" Kurumi asked, puzzled. "What kind of weird little organization are you?"
"Watch your mouth. What do you mean, 'weird little organization'? We are the hope of the new humanity."
Jogo immediately roared back at her.
"Tsk."
Kurumi clicked her tongue.
So noisy.
"You..."
Jogo ground his teeth, eyes fixed on her.
This cursed spirit was, without a doubt, incredibly annoying.
Mahito continued explaining with a gentle smile. "Our organization is not strange. On the contrary, we are working so that curses can have a better future."
"Heh. The more you talk, the more you sound like one of those shady organizations," Kurumi said, lazily spinning one of her pistols in her hand.
"If you want me to join, you at least have to tell me what I get out of it."
"As for giving curses a bright and hopeful future, save that for newborns who just manifested yesterday."
She looked straight at Mahito. "In human terms, this is what you call painting a big pie in the air, you know?"
For once, the corner of Mahito's mouth twitched.
Why did it feel like this curse in front of him understood human tricks far too well?
Even so, he maintained that same easy smile on his face.
"That is not quite right, Miss Nightmare. If we topple the current sorcerer order, then in the future you would be far more free," Mahito said, voice carrying a hint of counterattack.
"You would not have to keep hiding from jujutsu sorcerers anymore."
In recent years, Nightmare was without question the most unrestrained of all special grade curses, the one with the widest range of activity.
It was said she had appeared in multiple countries.
The number of humans who died to her grew with every crossing she made.
But precisely because of that, she had often been besieged by large numbers of sorcerers.
She could never stay long in any one place.
Mahito pointed down at the ground beneath their feet. "Your location has already been exposed. Before long, more sorcerers will come to hunt you."
"You will probably have to run agai—"
Bang.
Before he could finish, a gunshot rang out and his head burst apart again.
The bullets in Kurumi's hands were, in some sense, no different from miniature bombs.
Seeing Mahito get his head blown off again, Jogo completely lost it.
Blazing flames surged into his hand, and the air around them began to warp with heat.
Mahito's skull, meanwhile, quickly regenerated.
Curses already had a natural talent for self-repair, and his technique made it even easier.
"If you do not know how to talk properly, I do not mind teaching you," Kurumi said, eyes narrowing, guns still gleaming in her hands.
