Chapter 15 - The mysterious new girl

The sky was unusually cloudy, and a strange silence filled the air as I walked toward school. It wasn't the normal quiet—it felt heavy, like something was about to happen.

I couldn't stop thinking about last night.

That shadow.

That feeling.

And most importantly… her.

When I reached school, everything looked normal on the outside. Students laughing, teachers walking through the corridors, the usual chaos. But inside me, nothing felt normal anymore.

As I entered the classroom, my eyes immediately searched for her.

And there she was.

Sitting in her usual seat by the window, looking outside like she always did. Her expression was calm, almost too calm—like she didn't belong to this noisy world.

I slowly walked to my seat, my heart beating faster with every step.

Today, I had decided something.

I wasn't going to stay silent anymore.

"Hey…" I said, trying to sound normal.

She turned her head slowly and looked at me. Those deep, unreadable eyes met mine again.

"Yes?" she replied softly.

There was something different in her voice today. It sounded… tired.

"I need to talk to you," I said.

For a moment, she didn't say anything. She just stared at me, as if trying to understand my thoughts.

"After school," she finally said.

And just like that, she turned back to the window.

The entire day felt longer than usual.

I couldn't focus on any class. The teachers' voices sounded distant, like echoes. My mind was filled with questions.

Who is she really?

Why does she act like that?

And what did I see last night?

Finally, the last bell rang.

Students quickly started leaving, laughing and chatting as usual. But I stayed in my seat, waiting.

After a few minutes, the classroom became empty.

Only me… and her.

She stood up slowly and walked toward the door. Then she stopped and looked back at me.

"Come," she said.

We walked in silence.

Instead of going toward the main gate, she led me behind the school building—an area that was mostly empty and quiet. There were old trees, broken benches, and a small abandoned shed that no one used anymore.

The air felt colder there.

She stopped near the shed and turned to face me.

"This is far enough," she said.

I took a deep breath.

"Who are you?" I asked directly.

For a moment, she didn't react.

Then… she smiled.

But it wasn't a normal smile.

It was sad.

"I was wondering how long it would take," she said quietly.

"What do you mean?" I asked, confused.

She looked down for a moment, then back at me.

"You saw something last night, didn't you?" she said.

My heart skipped a beat.

So she knew.

"I… I saw a shadow," I admitted. "And I felt like someone was watching me."

She closed her eyes for a second.

"That wasn't your imagination," she said.

A chill ran down my spine.

"Then what was it?" I asked.

She hesitated.

And then, slowly, she said—

"It's connected to me."

The wind suddenly grew stronger, rustling the leaves around us.

I could feel my heartbeat getting louder.

"Connected to you… how?" I asked.

She took a step closer.

"You need to understand something," she said. "I didn't come to this school by choice."

"What?" I frowned.

"I was sent here," she continued. "To hide."

My mind raced.

"Hide from what?" I asked.

She didn't answer immediately.

Instead, she looked around, as if checking if anyone was nearby.

Then she leaned closer and whispered—

"From something dangerous."

Before I could ask anything more, a sudden noise came from inside the old shed.

Thud.

We both froze.

"Did you hear that?" I asked nervously.

She didn't reply.

Her expression had completely changed.

She looked… scared.

"No…" she whispered.

Another sound came.

Scratch… scratch…

It was coming from inside the shed.

My throat went dry.

"What is that?" I asked, my voice barely audible.

She grabbed my wrist tightly.

"We need to leave," she said urgently.

But before we could move—

The door of the shed slowly creaked open.

Creaaaaak…

A cold wind rushed out from inside.

And then…

Darkness.

Not normal darkness.

It looked like a shadow… moving.

My eyes widened.

"It's here," she whispered.

"What is 'it'?" I asked, panicking.

She didn't answer.

Instead, she pulled me behind her.

"Don't move," she said.

The shadow slowly began to take shape.

It wasn't human.

But it wasn't completely formless either.

It looked like a twisted figure… with long, unnatural arms.

My legs felt weak.

I couldn't move even if I wanted to.

The shadow suddenly stopped.

And then—

It turned toward us.

I felt my heart stop.

"It can see us," I whispered.

She clenched her fists.

"No… it can feel us," she corrected.

The air grew colder.

I could see my breath.

The shadow started moving toward us.

Slowly.

Step by step.

"What do we do?" I asked, my voice shaking.

She didn't answer immediately.

Then she said something that made my fear even worse—

"It wasn't supposed to find me here."

The shadow suddenly lunged forward.

I closed my eyes instinctively.

But before anything could happen—

A bright flash of light appeared.

I opened my eyes.

And what I saw shocked me.

She was standing in front of me…

But she looked different.

Her eyes were glowing.

Her expression was no longer calm—it was fierce.

"Stay behind me," she said firmly.

The shadow stopped for a moment, as if surprised.

"You shouldn't have come here," she said to it.

The shadow let out a strange, distorted sound.

Almost like a laugh.

Then it attacked again.

Everything happened too fast.

She raised her hand, and a faint light surrounded her.

The shadow tried to reach her, but it couldn't touch her.

It was like an invisible barrier was protecting us.

I watched in shock.

Who is she?

What is she?

The question echoed in my mind.

The fight lasted only a few seconds.

But it felt like forever.

Finally, the shadow let out a sharp sound and disappeared into the darkness of the shed.

Silence returned.

I stood there, frozen.

She slowly lowered her hand.

The glow in her eyes faded.

And she turned back to normal.

For a moment, neither of us spoke.

Then I finally said—

"…What are you?"

She looked at me.

Her eyes were filled with something I hadn't seen before.

Fear.

And sadness.

"That's what I've been trying to hide," she said quietly.

The wind stopped.

The silence felt heavier than ever.

And I realized something—

This wasn't just a mystery anymore.

It was something much bigger.

Something dangerous.

And somehow…

I was already a part of it.
