Chapter 10 - The mysterious new girl

Chapter 1: A Strange First Day

It was the first day of the new semester at Green Valley College. The campus was full of energy and excitement. Students were walking around with their friends, laughing and sharing stories about their vacations. Some students were rushing to find their classrooms, while others were sitting under the big trees, enjoying the cool morning breeze.

Rahul, a second-year student, was sitting on a bench near the college gate with his two best friends, Arjun and Neha. They were talking about their classes and joking with each other.

"I can't believe vacation is already over," Arjun said with a tired face. "I wish we had one more month of holidays."

Neha laughed. "If holidays were longer, you would still complain about being bored."

Rahul smiled but didn't say much. He was quietly watching the students entering the college gate.

Suddenly, Arjun stopped talking and looked towards the gate.

"Hey… who is that?" he asked.

Rahul and Neha turned their heads.

A girl had just entered the college campus. She was wearing a simple light-blue dress and carrying a small black bag. Her long black hair moved slightly in the wind. She walked slowly, looking around the campus as if she had never been there before.

There was something different about her.

She wasn't smiling like the other students. Her face looked calm but a little sad.

Rahul watched her carefully.

"I've never seen her before," he said.

Neha nodded. "Maybe she's a new student."

The girl walked past them quietly. She didn't look at anyone. She just kept walking toward the main building.

Some students nearby started whispering.

"Who is she?"

"Is she new here?"

"She looks very quiet."

Rahul couldn't explain why, but something about her caught his attention. It wasn't just that she was new. It felt like she was hiding something.

Inside the classroom, students were slowly taking their seats. Rahul, Arjun, and Neha sat in their usual places near the window.

A few minutes later, their teacher, Mr. Sen, entered the classroom.

"Good morning, everyone," he said.

"Good morning, sir," the students replied together.

Mr. Sen placed his books on the desk and looked at the class.

"Before we start today's lecture, I want to introduce someone."

At that moment, the classroom door opened slowly.

The same girl from the gate walked inside.

Everyone immediately turned to look at her.

The classroom became completely quiet.

Mr. Sen smiled gently.

"Class, this is a new student. Her name is Maya."

The girl stood quietly near the door.

"Please introduce yourself," Mr. Sen said kindly.

For a moment, she didn't speak. Then she slowly said, "My name is Maya. I just transferred to this college."

Her voice was soft and calm.

"Thank you, Maya," Mr. Sen said. "You can take the empty seat near the window."

Rahul suddenly realized the empty seat was right behind him.

Maya walked to the seat and sat down quietly. She placed her bag on the desk and looked outside the window.

Throughout the class, she didn't talk to anyone.

Even when some students tried to look at her or whisper about her, she ignored them.

Rahul kept wondering about her.

Why was she so quiet?

Why did she look so sad?

When the class ended, students immediately started talking again.

Arjun leaned toward Rahul and whispered, "Your new neighbor looks mysterious."

Neha nodded. "Yeah. She barely said anything."

Rahul turned slightly and looked at Maya.

She was quietly packing her books.

For a moment, their eyes met.

But Maya quickly looked away and stood up.

She walked out of the classroom alone.

Rahul watched her leave.

"I think something is wrong," he said softly.

"What do you mean?" Neha asked.

"I don't know," Rahul replied. "But she doesn't look like a normal new student."

Arjun laughed. "Maybe she's just shy."

But Rahul wasn't convinced.

Later that day, during lunch break, Rahul went to the cafeteria with his friends.

The cafeteria was crowded and noisy.

Students were eating, laughing, and talking loudly.

Rahul looked around the room.

And then he saw her.

Maya was sitting alone at a corner table.

She wasn't eating.

She was just looking at something in her hand.

It looked like an old photograph.

Her expression suddenly changed.

For a moment, she looked very sad.

Then she quickly put the photo back into her bag.

Rahul felt more curious than ever.

"Guys, I'll be back in a minute," he said.

"Where are you going?" Arjun asked.

Rahul didn't answer.

He slowly walked toward Maya's table.

But just before he reached her, Maya stood up.

She picked up her bag and left the cafeteria quickly.

Rahul stopped.

He looked confused.

"Why does she always leave so suddenly?" he wondered.

From that moment, Rahul knew one thing.

The new girl, Maya, was hiding something.

And somehow, he felt that her secret was going to change everything in the college.

But he had no idea how big that mystery really was.
