Chapter 3 - The First Awakening

The night refused to sleep.

Aadhya lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling fan spinning lazily above her. Delhi's distant traffic hummed like a restless beast outside the window. Normally, the noise comforted her. It meant life was ordinary.

But tonight, something felt… wrong.

Her skin burned.

Not everywhere. Just beneath her collarbone.

She slowly pushed herself up and walked toward the mirror attached to her wardrobe. Her room was dimly lit by the yellow bedside lamp. Shadows clung to the corners unnaturally thick.

She pulled down the neckline of her t-shirt.

The serpent mark had changed.

It wasn't faint anymore.

It was glowing.

Not bright like a bulb — but pulsing. Like something alive beneath her skin.

Thud.

Her heartbeat skipped.

The lights flickered.

Once.

Twice.

Then—

Everything went silent.

The fan stopped.

The street noise disappeared.

Even the hum of electricity died.

The world froze.

Aadhya swallowed. "Maa?"

No answer.

She stepped toward her bedroom door and opened it slightly.

The hallway outside was frozen mid-moment.

Her mother stood near the kitchen, a steel glass suspended mid-air, water droplets hanging in the air like crystals.

Nothing moved.

Nothing breathed.

Only Aadhya.

Her breath came faster.

"This isn't real," she whispered.

The mirror behind her cracked.

Not shattered.

Cracked.

She turned slowly.

Her reflection… was still smiling.

But she wasn't.

Cold spread down her spine.

The reflection's eyes darkened, pupils stretching vertically.

Serpent eyes.

The reflection leaned closer to the mirror's surface.

"You are late," it whispered.

Aadhya stumbled back.

"I'm dreaming," she said. "This is just a nightmare."

The wall behind her began to blacken. Darkness peeled away from the paint like wet ink dripping downward.

And from that darkness—

Something stepped out.

Tall.

Unnatural.

Its limbs too long. Its face hidden under writhing shadow. Eyes glowing pale white.

The temperature dropped instantly.

Her breath fogged.

The creature tilted its head.

"Blood… found," it rasped.

Aadhya tried to scream.

No sound came out.

Her feet refused to move.

The serpent mark burned violently now, spreading heat across her chest.

The creature lunged.

Time cracked.

Not stopped.

Cracked.

Like glass under pressure.

And then—

A voice echoed inside her mind.

Ancient.

Deep.

Calm.

Do not run.

Her body froze mid-fall.

The creature hovered inches from her.

Its claws inches from her face.

You are not prey.

The burning intensified.

You are the blood of the World Serpent.

The mark exploded in light.

A pulse of ermerald energy burst outward from her chest.

The shadow creature screamed — a distorted, inhuman shriek — as cracks formed across its body.

Aadhya's feet lifted off the ground slightly.

Her hair moved as if underwater.

"I don't understand!" she shouted inside her own mind.

You will.

The creature tried to retreat into the wall — but the green energy wrapped around it like chains.

For one brief second, she saw its true form.

Not just shadow.

Something ancient.

Something sealed long ago.

It dissolved into black ash.

Time restarted.

The fan spun violently.

Water crashed onto the kitchen floor.

Street noise returned all at once.

Aadhya collapsed onto her bedroom floor, gasping.

Her mother called from the kitchen, "Aadhya? Light kyun flicker ho rahi thi?"

"I—I don't know!" she shouted back, voice shaking.

She looked at the mirror.

Normal reflection.

No serpent eyes.

No crack.

But the mark…

It was no longer faint.

It was clear.

Sharp.

Royal.

And glowing softly.

She touched it.

This time, she didn't feel fear.

She felt power.

Far away.

Thousands of kilometers away.

In a hidden underground chamber beneath Cairo, Egypt—

An ancient artifact embedded in stone began to glow green.

Dust fell from the ceiling.

Old symbols lit up.

A hooded figure stepped forward.

"So," he murmured softly.

"The heir has awakened."

In Tokyo, Japan—

A sealed scroll ignited at its edges without burning.

In Brazil—

A jungle temple trembled.

Across the world, watchers felt it.

Something had shifted.

Back in Delhi, Aadhya slowly stood up.

Her legs trembled.

But her eyes…

Were different now.

Stronger.

Not fearless.

But no longer weak.

And somewhere deep inside her mind—

The serpent voice whispered once more.

This was only the first seal.
