The rubble lifted several centimeters before dropping again.
Concrete struck concrete hard enough to send dust rolling across the street. My zombies shifted around us, but none ran away.
That was more confidence than I currently had.
I stared at the pile where the hotel had once stood, waiting for something enormous to break through it. Nothing did.
The ground vibrated again instead.
This time, the movement travelled beneath us from right to left, cracking what remained of the sidewalk before disappearing under the buildings across the street.
The Devourer was still underground.
Good.
I preferred knowing that before it came through the road beneath my feet.
Half-Jaw turned away from the rubble and started walking north. Several zombies followed him immediately, while the rest remained around us with their heads pointed toward the collapsed hotel.
Apparently, we weren't taking the direct route.
