Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 — Among the Disciples

The Heavenly Flow Sect awakened with the rising sun.

Golden light poured over towering peaks and ancient stone halls, illuminating vast training grounds where hundreds of disciples had already gathered. Spiritual energy flowed through the air like invisible rivers, thick and vibrant, nourishing every cultivator within the sect.

Weapons clashed.

Techniques exploded.

Voices shouted with determination.

This was the world Seo Joon had stepped into.

A world of competition, ambition, and endless struggle.

Seo Joon walked through the wide gates of the outer training grounds, the disciple token hanging quietly at his waist. Its surface shimmered faintly, marking his new identity within the sect.

Around him, disciples trained in groups.

Some practiced sword techniques, their blades cutting through the air with sharp whistles. Others circulated spiritual energy while seated in meditation, their bodies glowing with different elemental auras — fire, wind, lightning, and earth. Some sparred fiercely, exchanging blows powerful enough to crack the stone beneath their feet.

The air trembled with youthful pride and burning ambition.

Seo Joon observed silently.

He could feel their strength.

But he could also feel the restless pulse of the Abyssal Heart within him, responding to every surge of energy around him like a predator sensing prey.

He steadied his breathing.

Control.

The word echoed in his mind.

"New disciple?"

A voice suddenly called out.

Seo Joon turned to see a tall young man approaching, surrounded by several followers. His robes were embroidered with silver markings, and his aura was far stronger than most nearby disciples.

His eyes carried arrogance.

"I don't recognize you," the young man said, crossing his arms. "State your name."

"Seo Joon."

A faint ripple of whispers spread among nearby disciples.

"That's him…"

"The one personally accepted yesterday…"

"They say the elders brought him themselves…"

Curiosity filled the air.

The young man narrowed his eyes. "So you're the one causing all the noise."

He stepped forward, releasing a wave of pressure meant to test him.

Ordinary new disciples would have collapsed.

Seo Joon remained unmoving.

The pressure brushed against him like a passing breeze.

A flicker of surprise crossed the young man's face.

"Interesting," he said. "I am Han Dae-Won. Remember the name. This place is ruled by strength. If you wish to survive here, know your position."

Seo Joon simply nodded.

He had no interest in meaningless conflict.

Yet the Abyssal Heart stirred faintly at the challenge, as if urging him to crush the arrogance before him.

He suppressed it.

From the edge of the training grounds, Seol Ah watched quietly.

Her presence remained distant to avoid suspicion, yet her attention never left Seo Joon. She could sense the subtle fluctuations of the Abyssal Heart whenever his emotions stirred.

He must learn faster, she thought with concern.

An elder soon appeared, his voice echoing across the training grounds.

"All new disciples, step forward!"

Several newcomers gathered, including Seo Joon. The elder's sharp gaze swept over them.

"From today onward, you will live and cultivate within the sect. Your strength determines your status. Your discipline determines your survival."

He gestured toward a massive stone monument standing at the center of the grounds. Names glowed across its surface in shifting golden light.

"The Disciple Rankings."

Seo Joon studied the monument. Hundreds of names were arranged in order, each radiating different levels of spiritual power.

"Your position grants access to resources, techniques, and cultivation grounds," the elder continued. "Challenge others. Rise in rank. Become stronger."

The crowd stirred with excitement.

This was a world where power defined everything.

Training began immediately.

The elder distributed basic cultivation manuals, instructing the new disciples to circulate spiritual energy through their meridians.

Seo Joon sat cross-legged among them.

As he guided energy through his body, he felt the Abyssal Heart react instantly. Dark energy surged forward, attempting to devour the surrounding spiritual energy rather than harmonize with it.

Pain spread through his chest.

Cold whispers filled his mind.

Consume.

Devour.

Destroy.

His breathing faltered.

Sweat formed on his brow as he struggled to maintain control.

Then—

A gentle stream of energy entered his meridians, stabilizing the chaotic flow.

Seo Joon opened his eyes slightly.

Seol Ah stood nearby, pretending to observe the training while secretly guiding her spiritual energy to help him maintain balance.

Her presence calmed the raging darkness.

The Abyssal Heart slowly settled.

Hours passed.

Most disciples exhausted themselves through intense training, but Seo Joon remained quietly focused. Every circulation of energy became a battle — not against others, but against the darkness within.

This was true cultivation.

Not domination.

Control.

As the sun began to set, the training session ended.

Disciples dispersed in groups, discussing techniques and future challenges. Some cast curious glances at Seo Joon, sensing his unusual calmness and hidden depth.

Han Dae-Won watched from afar, his eyes sharp with suspicion.

"There's something strange about him," he muttered.

Seo Joon stood alone as the sky darkened.

The sect grounds grew quiet, lanterns illuminating stone pathways while distant waterfalls echoed through the mountains.

He placed a hand over his chest.

The Abyssal Heart beat steadily.

For the first time, he had suppressed it during cultivation.

A small step.

But a crucial one.

Seol Ah approached him gently.

"You did well today," she said.

Seo Joon looked toward the endless mountain peaks surrounding the sect.

"This is only the beginning."

Ahead of him lay rivals, trials, and unknown dangers. Hidden enemies watched from the shadows, and the Abyss within him continued to grow.

But he would not be consumed.

He would master it.

And within the vast Heavenly Flow Sect, the legend of Seo Joon had quietly begun to rise
