Chapter 25 - Green Gas?
Elder Huan, as well as Kai and Nova, walked to a small floating car.
Elder Huan entered the driver's seat and pointed to the back seats.
Both Nova and Kai entered the back seats, and they drove off away from the hospital, quickly speeding up to nearly 400 km/h.
Kai was silent. He had known that these kinds of cars could speed up even more.
He silently looked at his status floating before him.

After a while, Kai decided to place his 2 points into Perception, raising it up to 7.
When he did, he felt completely different. He could both not see and see the area around him even while his eyes were closed. It was nice, allowing him to have a 360-degree vision around him for 5 meters.
But before he could try to figure out why he could now do something like that, the car started slowing down and came to a stop.
Around them, 50 ft tall, 10 ft thick walls were visible, and in front of them was a massive gate with nearly 50k people running around, checking things from cars and searching them.
As the car stopped, a person came to the driver's window, and Elder Huan and him began speaking. After a while, Elder Huan showed a small card with a screen on it showing some kind of identification, and the man nodded. The car then moved forward again.
Leaving the city, they now entered the nothingness around them.
In this era, outside of the cities was nothing—sometimes grass, but most times nothing, as even grass would be taken and sold, and the ground would be farmed. It was the first time both Nova and Kai had left the city they did not even know the name of.
Kai stared out, gobsmacked at the large empty space of just sand and nothingness.
After a few hours, finally the car stopped atop a massive concrete area.
It was massive, to say the least.
When Kai got out and looked around, he was not even able to see the end of the concrete ground.
And in front of him was a horde of people—at least a few million—and in front of them even more buses, floating and bobbing up and down as if they were in water.
After a while, people began moving into neat lines, getting some kind of cards, then leaving into the buses.
Kai looked around, and Nova was next to him, more confused than he was. Both looked at Elder Huan with a question in their eyes.
Elder Huan chuckled and gave them one card each.
Kai looked at it. It was slightly heavy. He flipped it and removed some kind of plastic wrap on it. It glowed, and in front of him, a screen came to life.

Kai began moving without a word to the buses, specifically bus 95. To his surprise, Nova followed him.
Nova moved faster to catch up with him and quickly asked, "What bus number are you?"
Kai answered, "95."
Nova nodded and muttered, "That old bastard probably did this."
Kai raised an eyebrow and said, "What?"
Nova quickly said, "Nothing!"
After a while, they sat down in the middle of the bus. It had two rows of two seats, one left and one right. Kai sat on the left-side window seat, and Nova silently sat next to him.
After a while, the buses floated more and more into the air and shot off into the distance together.
A person appeared in each bus, wearing a suit, and began speaking. In their bus, Elder Huan spoke, appearing from thin air.
"Hello, future disciples. I am Elder Huan in the National Awakened Academy. There is a hierarchy of disciples. Once joining, all of you will become first-years, and you must at least spend 3 years there. Then you are allowed to leave the academy. First, I am an Elder. My name is simply Huan, not Elder Huan. Hope that gets you all."
He sighed and said, "Now, I hope all of you read your cards beforehand, because... this is the first and only hidden test you will face. Good luck."
Kai raised an eyebrow
and from the air vents of the bus, green gas began leaking out.
