Chapter 6 - My Bloodline System

Chapter 6 – I Need to Rest

Kai stood in front of the fridge, staring at the dull white shelves. There were only two eggs, a nearly empty bottle of hot sauce, and a plastic container that looked like it had leftovers from last week. His stomach rumbled.

"Where the hell's all the food?" he muttered, closing the fridge with a dull *thunk.*

"Looking for something specific?" a voice asked behind him.

He jumped and turned quickly. "Ma! You scared me—"

His mother was leaning on the kitchen doorway, arms crossed, a small amused smile tugging at her lips. "You get jumpy when you're hungry, huh?"

Kai let out a breath, rubbing the back of his neck. "Don't sneak up like that…"

"I didn't sneak. You just didn't hear me," she said, walking over and glancing into the fridge herself. "Anyway, there's nothing because I didn't cook. We ordered out tonight."

Kai leaned against the counter. "Oh. That explains it."

His mom glanced at him sideways. "You doing alright?"

"Hm? Yeah. Just hungry." He kept his tone even, but in truth, his muscles still ached. His head felt foggy.

She studied his face for a moment, then let it go. "Alright. Food should be here soon."

As she turned and left the room, Kai stared at her back. A strange curiosity welled up in him. Ever since the system appeared, things felt... different. Like he was seeing the world through a second lens. He narrowed his eyes and focused.

'Activate Inspect' he thought.

A familiar red screen appeared in the corner of his vision:

[ Name: Heather Val ]

[ Bloodline: Unknown - requires direct contact to identify ]

[ Bloodline Tier: Earth ]

[ Status: Stable ]

[ Note: This person carries a Lost Soul ]

Kai frowned at the last line.'Earth tier? and lost soul what are those?'

The system responded immediately, the voice neutral and steady.

[A lost to referee to a person who diverted form there path of destiny by force by riping them self's to do something different. while earth is a bloodline level second above you. You have Mortal worst of them all then theres Earth then Heaven and then Divine. ]

Kai blinked, the information settling uncomfortably in his chest. He hadn't thought about his mother's life before she became one.

What had she wanted? Who had she been?

Before he could dwell on it, his father's voice echoed from the living room.

"Kai! Don't take too long. We've got cake to celebrate your brother getting into the Academy."

Kai forced a smile. "Yeah, I'll be right there."

---

In the bathroom, the mirror fogged from the hot water. Kai turned the shower knob slowly, adjusting the temperature until steam rose in thick plumes. He stepped in and let the water hit his back.

The heat grounded him. No magic, no systems—just sensation.

He closed his eyes and stood still, listening to the sound of water splashing against the tiles. The longer he stood there, the more aware he became. Of each drop. Each bead rolling down his skin. Of his breathing. The pain from earlier was still there, but softer now, dulled by warmth.

His thoughts began to drift.

*How did I even survive the fall?*

*Why did the system choose me?*

*Am I even supposed to have something like this?*

He opened his eyes. A drop of water hung in the air in front of him—caught mid-fall, just for a second. He reached out, index finger extended, and flicked it. It burst apart instantly, scattering into mist.

Suddenly, pain flared behind his eyes. Sharp. White-hot.

He staggered back, catching the wall for balance. The world spun for a moment, his vision flashing.

Then—*ding.*

[ New Attribute Acquired: Perception ]

[ Perception: 2 ]

[ Details: Increases host's spatial awareness. Within a limited radius, the host may detect subtle movements or presence—even without visual confirmation. Effectiveness depends on comparative stealth and perception ratings. ]

Kai wiped water from his face, breathing heavily.

"...That wasn't normal."

The system answered without prompt.

[ Your focus isolated a singular moment. A small act—but powerful. As perception improves, the host may begin detecting things others overlook: movement, intent, hidden threats.]

Kai didn't respond. He stayed there, letting the water fall around him, body still trembling slightly.

Eventually, he shut off the tap. Wrapped in a towel, he stepped out and looked at himself in the mirror. His reflection looked older than before. Or maybe just more tired.

Still...

He leaned closer, eyes locking with his own. There was something in his stare. A quiet resolve.
