I waited for Kairos to state his condition, but he took his sweet time doing so. When he said nothing, I decided to ask instead.
"What is your condition, Kairos?"
Kairos grinned, his eyes glinting as though it was the best question I had asked since seeing him again. Then he leaned closer, our lips nearly touching.
I stopped breathing.
My heart began to race again. Because of him. Because of the sudden thought of him kissing me. Stripping me of my dignity I had held on for 21 years. My body tingled, and my hands clenched at my sides.
"I am a jealous man, Tesoro," he murmured, his voice low and husky.
I swallowed as his hand moved from my ear down to my neck. His large, calloused palm wrapped around it, not tight enough to hurt, but firm enough to remind me I was completely at his mercy.
God, I loved the feel of his hands.
My nostrils flared as I drew in a slow breath, letting it out just as carefully.
