As Liam and Yaso were about to open the door, they heard a strange noise, almost as if a dog was throwing up.
"Well, looks like she's still going at it after all this time," Yaso said.
"Huh??? What do you mean?" Liam asked.
"You'll find out," Yaso replied.
As Yaso opened the door, something came crashing toward him… but somehow, it perfectly missed.
(Wait… what? That was perfectly aligned with him. It should have hit him.) Liam thought to himself.
"I see that you're still trying to make them work overtime, huh?" Yaso said.
As Yaso said that, Liam saw a human-sized spider and a dog around her. It looked kind of scary.
"Well, it's not my fault you gave me the idea to overwork them," Kaisa said.
"Well, you do know you're also just using up all your divine energy like that, right?" Yaso replied.
"It's fine… it's not like I'm going anywhere right now anyway," Kaisa said.
"Uh… about that, you actually have a new partner now," Yaso said.
As Yaso said that, he slowly moved away from the door and showed Liam to Kaisa for the first time.
"Hello, nice to meet you," Liam said.
In a cold tone of voice, Kaisa replied, "Hello."
"Oh, come on now, Kaisa. Be a little nice to Liam. He's new, after all," Yaso said.
"Why should I? There's no reason to… plus, I'm probably better than him with my divine power," Kaisa said.
"Uh, actually, he outclasses you by a long shot. Trust me," Yaso replied.
"Wait… what? For real?" Kaisa asked.
"Yup. He's pretty damn strong for being new to all of this," Yaso said.
"But… I mean… he only has one divine, so it can't be that strong… can it?" Kaisa asked.
"Well… actually, he has two," Yaso said.
"What… two? Just like me?" Kaisa said.
"Yup," Yaso replied with a cheerful grin.
"But you told me that people like that are rare to come by," Kaisa said.
"Well, they are. That's why I want the both of you to partner up… you know, so your ego doesn't get the best of you like always," Yaso said.
"Well… do I have to? WAIT—what even is his divine power?" Kaisa asked.
"He has the ability to recreate anything from memory, and it appears right in front of him. His second one is basically a creature that surrounds him and follows any order he gives," Yaso explained.
"What… that sounds better than mine… NO FAIR!" Kaisa said.
"Oh, come on. Yours is still pretty cool. You can summon any animal you tame to human size, and you basically have unlimited divine energy," Yaso said.
"Funny coming from the guy who has five," Kaisa replied.
"Wait… that's divine power energy?" Liam asked.
"Divine power energy, or also known as DPE, is basically the energy used when using your divine power," Yaso explained.
"Oh, that makes sense," Liam said.
"Huh… how does he only know this now? Am I going to have to teach him on the fly when we're out?" Kaisa muttered.
"Okay, okay, I get it. Anyways, let's get to the point of why we're here," Yaso said.
"Fine," Kaisa replied.
"Okay," Liam said.
"From now on, until something changes, you guys are going to be partners. That means you have to learn to work together and use your divine powers as a group," Yaso said.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, I already know this," Kaisa said.
"I don't," Liam said.
"That's why I'm re-explaining this. Anyways, I've been ordered to give you guys this assignment: hunt down an Echo who's level 7. It's about 200 miles from here, located in Beson," Yaso said.
"Okay, sounds doable and not that far," Kaisa said.
"I'm sorry… you said about 200 miles?" Liam asked.
"Yeah, 200 miles," Yaso replied.
"Do you realize how far that is?" Liam said.
"Calm down there, dude… did he never explain the transport system here?" Kaisa asked.
"No, he did not," Liam said, looking at Yaso angrily.
"Well, is that everything? Because I would like to be on our way now, if you don't mind," Kaisa said.
"Yup, that's everything. Good luck," Yaso said, giving a thumbs up.
"Just follow me, okay? And don't drag me down, rookie," Kaisa said.
"Rookie??? Wait, I'm not a rookie… Yaso said I could even kill him!" Liam said.
"Kill him? Please don't tell me that was a joke, or we're definitely not going to get along well," Kaisa said.
"Well, that's what he told me, even though he said it was a joke," Liam replied.
"Mmm…" Kaisa thought. "Well, if you could kill Yaso, then we would be in a lot of trouble."
"Trouble?" Liam asked, confused. "Why would we be in trouble?"
"You see, Yaso is actually what makes these Echos less likely to fight in large groups. That's why we usually see them in smaller groups," Kaisa explained.
"So what… he lures them away or something?" Liam asked.
"Yup, bingo," Kaisa replied.
"Why is that?" Liam asked.
"Echos are afraid of him because he's one of the few people alive with multiple divine powers," Kaisa said. "They can actually sense how many divines a person has… and he's different. Since he has five."
"Oh… I guess that makes sense," Liam replied.
As they were chatting, they finally made their way down to the transport station.
"Wow… this is cool. It's so massive here… and there are lots of people too," Liam said.
The transport station was as big as an airport, with the only difference being it was all underground and stretched for over 100 miles, with transport ranging from air systems to underwater routes.
"Well, get used to it since we're going to be partners from now on," Kaisa said.
I thought Kaisa liked using people, but I guess she doesn't seem to care for me at all, Liam thought to himself.
"Just let me do the talking, okay?" Kaisa said.
"Sure… not like I even know who to talk to," Liam muttered.
"Yo, yo, yo, how's it hanging, Jason?" Kaisa said.
Jason looked like a mix between a cat and a dolphin combined with a human. He looked oddly adorable, Liam thought.
Sigh "What do you need, Kaisa?" Jason asked in a tired voice.
"Oh, you know, we just need a train ride to Beson—and as fast as you can get us there," Kaisa said.
"Well… sadly, we can't. Or at least, we can't give it to you," Jason said.
"Wait… what? Why is that?" Kaisa asked.
"Well, last time you got a ride somewhere, you ended up blowing it up, so you've been temporarily disabled from the system," Jason explained.
"Seriously? Just my luck… wait, what about him?" Kaisa said, pointing at Liam.
"Huh… me?" Liam said.
"Yeah. Can he order transport for us?" Kaisa asked.
"Yeah, sure—as long as he has his ID with him," Jason said.
"Of course he does, right Liam?" Kaisa said.
"Oh yeah, I do. It's in my left pocket," Liam said.
"Let me take a look," Jason said.
The ID card had all the basic information a typical ID would have… except it also showed your divine powers, your mentor, and your threat level.
As Jason looked at it, his face went from depressed to shocked.
"Uh… you good?" Kaisa asked.
"Wait… you didn't tell me Yaso was with him—and that he also has multiple divine powers," Jason said.
"Well, we didn't think that would matter," Kaisa replied.
"Is that good or bad?" Liam asked.
"Don't worry. I can get you guys a ride to Beson, and you'll probably be there in about an hour and a half," Jason said.
"Huh… that doesn't seem right. 200 miles in only an hour and a half?" Liam said.
"Oh, well, down here in transport, we specialize in being quick and reliable," Jason said.
"So, can we get our tickets or ride the train or what?" Kaisa said.
"Oh—right, I forgot. Here you are. You're going to be on the left. Enjoy," Jason said.
"That guy seems alright," Liam said.
"He can be a pain at times," Kaisa replied.
It seems like not a lot of people like Kaisa… or maybe she's just rude to them or something, Liam thought as they walked to their train.
"Wait… I don't get it. How come once he realized Yaso was involved, he let us right through?" Liam asked.
"Well, Yaso is kind of a big shot around here… actually, more like everywhere that has divine powers," Kaisa said.
"Couldn't you have just said that he was the one who ordered us to go here?" Liam asked.
"Well… I used to use his name to get into places I wasn't supposed to," Kaisa said nervously, "and now a lot of people don't believe me unless he's actually with me or tells them beforehand."
"Oh… I guess that makes sense… but I thought your ID would've told them," Liam said.
