My phone suddenly rang.
Unknown number.
Victor looked surprised.
I answered slowly.
"Hello?"
A familiar voice replied.
Calm.
Cold.
"I see you finally found the truth."
My heart stopped.
"Mom?"
Silence.
Then:
"You always were too trusting."
My knees felt weak.
"Why?"
Her voice stayed emotionless.
"Because your father planned to leave everything to you."
My throat tightened.
"And you couldn't share?" I whispered.
"You were always his favorite."
The bitterness in her voice was real.
Years of it.
"And Victor?" I asked.
"A tool," she replied.
"And Daniel?"
"Also a tool."
My entire world felt like it collapsed again.
