"That's ridiculous," Victor said quickly.
But he sounded nervous.
The injured man didn't move.
"You paid my medical bills."
Silence.
Victor looked around the room.
"Helping someone isn't a crime."
Daniel stared at him.
"You never told me that."
Victor shrugged.
"It wasn't important."
But the room no longer believed him.
Amara whispered to me.
"Something's wrong."
The man continued.
"You told me about the rich woman who ruined my life."
My chest tightened.
Victor looked annoyed now.
"I was angry."
"Angry enough to plan revenge?" the man asked.
Daniel suddenly laughed.
"You were using me?"
Victor didn't answer.
That silence was louder than any confession.
Because now the puzzle pieces were shifting again.
And the man responsible for everything…
Might have been standing beside us the
whole time.
