"What truth?" I asked.
The man studied my face carefully.
"You think Daniel planned everything?"
I hesitated.
"Didn't he?"
Daniel frowned.
"Wait."
The man shook his head slowly.
"This story didn't start with him."
The room fell quiet again.
Because suddenly a new possibility appeared.
"If not him," Amara asked, "then who?"
The man looked across the room.
Past Daniel.
Past Nora.
Then pointed somewhere unexpected.
Victor.
My heart skipped.
Victor raised his hands immediately.
"Don't drag me into this."
But the man didn't look uncertain.
"In the hospital," he said calmly, "someone visited me."
