Amara stared at Nora in disbelief.
"You tried to kill her?"
Nora laughed bitterly.
"Oh please."
But no one else was laughing.
Daniel spoke calmly.
"She didn't expect the man on the road."
The injured man nodded slowly.
"Wrong place. Wrong time."
My chest tightened.
"So this whole thing started years ago?"
Daniel nodded.
"Yes."
My mind struggled to catch up.
"So you married me because of that?"
"Partly," he said.
The room felt like it was spinning.
"Partly?" I repeated.
He leaned closer.
"Because revenge is slow."
My stomach twisted.
"And watching your life fall apart slowly…"
He smiled slightly.
"…is much more satisfying."
The cruelty in his voice sent chills down my spine.
But something about this still didn't add up.
Because if Daniel wanted revenge…
