"This is ridiculous," Nora snapped.
But her voice shook.
Daniel tilted his head.
"Then explain."
Nora looked around the room.
People were watching her now.
Judging.
Waiting.
"It was just a car," she said.
Daniel chuckled.
"Tell them who asked her to drive that night."
Silence.
Heavy silence.
My heart pounded harder.
Because deep down…
I already knew the answer.
Nora avoided my eyes.
"I… suggested it."
Gasps filled the room.
My stomach twisted.
"You asked me to take the car," I said slowly.
She looked defensive.
"So what?"
Daniel stepped forward.
"And you never told her the brakes were failing."
The world stopped.
"What?" I whispered.
My legs felt weak.
Nora's silence was the loudest answer in the room.
Suddenly the accident looked very different.
And the person I trusted as family…
Looked like someone I had never known at all.
