Chapter 2 - A cry in the forest

As the sun set in the district of Eldent, Mary, a newly wed, was walking home from her cousin's house. She was beautiful, breathtakingly so.

With her crimson red eyes, almond in shape, she gazed at the sun set as a flush of red-ish orange was cast onto the sky. The beautiful sky was reflected onto the river she passed by.

She then averted her gaze to the reflection in the river. Somewhere in the river's reflection, Mary spotted her reflection in the river.

With an hourglass figure and fair skin, partnered with her brown hair, healthy and wavy, she was renown as one of the most beautiful women in Eldent, if not the most beautiful, I dare say.

As she stopped to look at her reflection more, a little gold fish popped up in the centre of the reflection and distorted it with ripples of water.

She smiled and continued going her way till she arrived at her abode.

She was greeted by a suprise hug from her husband, Adam, who was a member of the Eldent order of knights, the district's defence force.

Adam was a kind-hearted man, his vibrant personality lit the house. He stood at a staggering 182cm tall while his wife, Mary, stood at 167cm.

His black hair, complimented his sharp grey coloured eyes. He had a bit of a bulky build, seeing as he's a knight.

The couple live happily, near the entrance to the Eldent forest. After three months of living together, Mary fell pregnant. This new development made the couple excited, as a new chapter was unfolding—one of parent hood.

When winter hit the district of Eldent, about 2 months later, Adam decided to go and get firewood for the fire place. Adam therefore ventured into the Eldent forest to collect firewood.

The Eldent forest wasn't dangerous, that's if you exclude the mana beast domain. This area was found at heart of the forest, though it wasn't big, the mana beast domain had restricted access because only the district's mages and knights could access it.

As Adam chopped branches and small trees for firewood, he heard a cry near the barrier of the mana beast domain.

'Waaaaaah!' 'waaaaaah!'

"What's that noise?" He thought to himself. "It's getting louder"

"Let me go check it out. You never know who or what could be in trouble." He said to himself.

"It kinda sounds like a baby...?" Adam muttered as he began to run towards the source of the noise.

He speedily and carefully approached the source of the noise he heard.

When Adam arrived at the source of the sound, he saw a little cradle being slowly approached by dark wolves.

Dark wolves are a type of the weaker mana beast group that look like jet black wolves with bigger canines and glowing purple eyes.

Adam dashed and quickly ran in front of the cradle. He then quickly glanced at all three of the dark wolves as though to quickly assess their abilities.

He smirked lightly before chopping off their heads with a single swing of his axe. This was due to the fact that the dark wolves lunged at him at the same time.

A few moments later, their heads rolled on the ground as blood gushed out of their headless bodies.

Adam then tended to the cradle.

What he found was a brown haired child, a girl. She looked not older than a few weeks old. When Adam lifted the baby, her cry soon turned to faint cooing noises and a subtle smile.

The moon, once hidden by the clouds, was now shining ever so beautifully in the night sky.

The rays of light, ever so graceful, touched the child's hair, and upon contact, her brown hair's beauty found it's full expression as she gazed into Adam's eyes and he into hers.

Adam saw a sparkle in the child's eyes. This sparkle was strange.

Though being strange, that sparkle stirred something within Adam's heart.

He couldn't explain it. And this was all the more reason he grew attached to her in the brief moments of their encounter.

And so, Adam decided to carry the little girl with him.

*********

*Ka-clunk*

The door to Adam's house unlocked with a faint clunk noise.

"Oh. Adam must be back," Mary said. "Took him long enough." She said under her breath, with a hint of annoyance in her tone.

*Tamp-tamp-tamp*

Her footsteps sounded as she walked to the front entrance. "You sure took your sweet time getting firewood... What's that behind your back?" Mary asked, with confusion written all over her face.

"Uhhhhh... Well, you see, I kind of maybe, by a little chance, found a baby girl in the mana beast domain."

"B-before you get mad or anything, I just decided to take her with me because of how dangerous the mana beast domain is." Adam stammered as he desperately tried to explain himself.

"And plus, I couldn't just leave a defenceless little baby out in the most dangerous part of the Eldent forest." He added.

"Huuuh..." Mary sighed, with hints of relief and subtle joy on her face.

"It seems we have no option but to take her in and make her an official member of the Baldwin household." Mary said, with a light smile on her face.

"Well, then it seems celebrations are in order," Adam said.

"Before we celebrate, let's give the child a name." Mary said, with a gentle expression on her face as she held the little baby in her arms.

"Let's name her Moon-child or Wolfie! Even better, how does Dark-lance soun—"

*SMACK!*

"No child of mine shall be called any of those despicable words you call names!!!" Mary shouted, as she slapped some sense into Adam.

"Hmph! I say we call her Elizabeth. It's a kind and gentle name." Mary said, as she held little Elizabeth and gazed ever so gently at her little face.

"Elizabeth it is. It's a wonderful name, honey." Adam said while doing his best to maintain consciousness.

With the introduction of a new member to their family, the Baldwin household rejoiced and celebrated little Elizabeth.

A couple months later, Mary gave birth to a boy. He had his father's hair and inherited his mother's crimson eyes.

The new born boy was named Levi.

The Baldwin household received its newest member.
