Light filtered through the high windows of the classroom as Gensu sat among the new students, his eyes scanning everything cautiously, mixed with a silent fear and restrained excitement. Beside him, a tall young man with sleek orange hair, Nirobi, stared at the teacher intently at his blue eyes., as if every word could change his life forever.
The teacher stood before the blackboard, his white hair and steel-like eyes unwavering, and spoke in a calm but stern voice:
"Yami are born from evil thoughts and intense emotions: anger, hatred, the desire to kill, and even self-loathing. The strength of a Yami depends on the intensity of these feelings."
A shiver ran down Gensu's spine as he realized that these creatures were not mere legends or training exercises, but real beings that threatened humanity.
"Every human is capable of creating only one Yami in their lifetime, but power users can never create a Yami at all. Your duty is to hunt and destroy Yami, protect humanity, and prevent these creatures from spreading."
Nirobi whispered to him quietly, curiosity in his tone rather than mockery:
"First day in class… and everything already feels… more complicated than I expected."
Gensu gave a small smile but remained silent, focusing on the teacher's explanation of Yami classifications: normal, intermediate, high-level, and legendary, with emphasis on the fact that kings never truly die, and those defeated are only sealed by the strongest members of the organization, like Thalen.
"Slaying a Yami is not easy," the teacher continued. "You must know their weaknesses, use your powers wisely, and work as a team. One mistake could be your last."
After the lecture ended, Gensu and Nirobi were summoned to the operations room of the organization.
"There's an emergency at the city general hospital. Yami activity has been detected—apparently only a normal Yami. This mission should be relatively simple for you. Eliminate it quickly."
Gensu shivered slightly but felt this would be an opportunity to test his abilities outside of training.
Nirobi nodded, saying:
"At least it seems like an easy task… or so they said."
They set off on foot toward the hospital, their footsteps echoing along the empty streets. The dim city lights cast long shadows across the sidewalks. Everything appeared normal, yet the air was thick with something intangible, a hidden sense of danger pressing against their chests.
Meanwhile, in the emergency wing, Celio, the injured child, lay on a stretcher, drenched in blood. Every bone in his body was broken, bruises covering him from head to toe. Memories flooded his mind: his father who beat him mercilessly, his sister who died from his violence, all the anger and hatred accumulating in his small heart.
"I hate you… I hate you… Why won't you just die? If you come back… I will kill you… I swear… I will kill you… I will kill everyone…"
Every word was a flame of pure rage and hatred, and with his final breath, a high-level Yami formed. Its body was pitch-black, eyes glowing like embers, a dark field surrounding it, warping reality—but all of this was completely hidden from Gensu and Nirobi. They had no idea it even existed.
Gensu and Nirobi continued walking, speaking briefly about their training, Yami classifications, and the possibility of facing even greater threats in the future, while the hospital lights grew brighter and clearer on the horizon. Gensu felt his heart race, a whisper of unease echoing in his mind, yet nothing could prepare him for the true magnitude of the danger lurking beyond those doors.
Finally, they arrived at the hospital. The lights shimmered, the emergency doors loomed massive, and the night around them was silent.
Gensu's eyes fixed on the building, a growing feeling deep inside him that this mission would not be as simple as promised, that behind these doors lay something far greater than they could have imagined.
